Embarassing to ask, but about equipping ...

So ... beginning chapter two, I was doing the first quests in the sewers, encountered enemies, and whenever I pulled out a weapon, Geralt kept defaulting back to a torch I had in my inventory rather than the sword I had in my inventory. I had to run away and drop the torch before I could pull out my sword. Why is that? There doesn't seem to be an easily discernable way to understand what weapon Geralt chooses when you press Q, Z, X or C. So, what gives? Does anyone know if there's a way to choose which weapon you're pulling out?

Sigh ... you just click the sword on the screen when poised to fight. Cool. Can't wait to actually get to Witcher 3 and see the improvements they made lol.

A letter you didn't mention was "E", which will pull out the silver sword, if you have that in its slot in your inventory.

Thanks for your reply, both of you. That is tremendously helpful, given I can't remember the really small tutorial the game gives you at the beginning about that, and there seems to be no mention of quick keys anywhere in the menus (nor did a google search yield anything useful).

Another question I have though: Is there a quick key for the dagger slot? There doesn't seem to be one.

I never use the dagger, except once, when for some reason I didn't have any swords, it automatically jumped into my hand when a fight started. That's a handy feature of the game,
except that it doesn't know which type of sword you need, steel or silver, and often picks the wrong one!
By the way, the torch is a fairly effective weapon, if that's all you've got!
