i dont like the backrooms as i feel like it's creepypasta-tier horror, BUT it's still horror.. and guess what? it's a walking sim.
even the OG Silent Hill game, while being praised as one of the goats is just a 3rd person walking sim... you opinion holds NO weight here lol.
this game is most definitely a horror. more specifically: this is what's called a "Psychological Horror" game. where the 'horror' is the daunting atmosphere, and the 'enemies' main purpose is simply to f*** with you.
you have to also keep in mind that this is just an indie dev they dont even have the budget to get everything perfect. although, i would have liked to see more than one difficulty, maybe the point of this game wasnt to have a "hard & tense" experience?
idk, your definition of "horror" kinda sucks balls. your definition is too restricting.
You solve a puzzle to get a key—great, progress! But wait, the room you just unlocked is pitch dark because the lightbulb is missing. Fine, you go to get a lightbulb. Oh, but the hatch to the ladder where the lightbulb is? Rusted shut. So you need rust remover. But the rust remover is behind a locked door. Oh, but the floor with the rust remover has no electricity. Great! Now you need to turn on the electricity for the floor with the rust remover for the hatch to the ladder to the room with the bulb to the room you just unlocked.
But wait—before you can turn on the electricity, you need a fuse from the maintenance closet. And guess what? The maintenance closet key is inside a locked drawer in another room across the map. So now you’re looking for a key to the drawer that holds the key to the closet to get the fuse to turn on the electricity for the floor with the rust remover for the hatch to the ladder to the room with the bulb to the room you just unlocked.
This game didn’t scare me; it made me question my life choices. I hated every second of it.
