Εγώ πιστεύω πως άρχισαν από τη λέξη "Αποθέωση" (μάλιστα, υπάρχει και σχετικό achievement, ένα από τα πιο δύσκολα) και επινόησαν μία λέξη που:
(α) να ακούγεται ωραία στα αγγλικά,
(β) να φαίνεται ελληνική και
(γ) να προσδιορίζει "αυτόν που αποθεώνεται" ή "αυτόν που επιδιώκει την αποθέωση".

In Apotheon, you kinda mess with the gods (defy them), but I am not sure if you will eventually overthrow them to become one yourself. I'll have to beat the game for that, so NO SPOILERS please :)
My answer would be the noun Apotheosis (Αποθέωσις) means deification (making into a god) http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/apotheosis , so Apotheon (Αποθεών) means the one who became a god. There is an achievement in the game called Apotheosis, one of the most difficult to obtain, the description of which is "Acquire the powers from all twelve Olympian Gods" (So becoming a god yourself).
