Whoever designed the shotguns in this game has never used a gun in real life.
These are probably the worst shotguns in the history of gaming. Literally 0 damage from 10 feet away. 0. They have an effective range of 2 feet and the pellets literally just dissapear after 10 feet.

Holy ♥♥♥♥, these are embarrassingly bad shotguns.

EDIT* THIS THREAD IS FROM ALMOST TWO MONTHS AGO AND THE GAME HAS SINCE BEEN PATCHED BY THE DEVS.

"• Shotguns:
• • In a lot of feedback about shotguns, players were concerned that shotguns were useless at mid-range. We agree: no damage at all at mid-range was strange, so now shotguns do deal small damage at mid-range.
• • Side Note: Overall, the shotgun is the most controversial weapon for the community in any FPS game, Shatterline being no exception. Thus another major part of the feedback was about shotguns being overpowered. We did our best to find any corroboration to that in our data, but alas, we found no proof of that theory. In any case, we are closely monitoring the situation with shotguns and will react accordingly if we find any imbalance proof in our data, including the impact of today's change in damage at mid-range."

Note the part where they said "We agree" and "There's no evidence of shotguns being the most op weapons because of balance issues."

You ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ can shut the ♥♥♥♥ up and go cry about it somewhere else. I win, you lose, shut the ♥♥♥♥ up you clowns.

I can agree to this, shotguns are only useful at a very very close range.

But seriously now.
Shotguns in games usually are close range weapons with a drastic fall off in damage.
If they were supposed to be realistic, why use anything else?
Ever used a shotgun with a buckshot (because that's the most common ammo type in games)?

That ♥♥♥♥ fires so many pellets in a decent grouping, has easy to control recoil and can be fired quite quickly even for an inexperienced shooter. That's my experience of me firing few shells from 870, could do it quite quickly too. That day I also fired guns for the first time in my life.

All I can say, is.... AR15 with 5.56 kicks much more than 870 did with a buckshot.
Pistols are much harder to control with their recoil than what you may think from games or movies.
WW2 Thompson is easy as hell to control, doesn't kick like a mule (it is quite heavy), low caliber rifles (lower than 5.56) are basically no-recoil guns.

So my experience aside,
It is just a game balance thing.
Shotguns are either completely hated or forgotten in most FPS games. Have you tried all shotgun variants or just the initial one?

indeed horrible shotguns, and pretty useless in PvE

Yeah, they feel really bad in both PvP and PvE.

I've tried using it in PvE and it just kept getting me killed, because you really don't want to rush into a group of enemies there, it's suicide.

Today I noticed a quest for 50 shotgun kills in PvP modes and decided to give it a go since the reward is good, but it's been an absolutely terrible experience to the point I started hating the game and just quit after several matches and 30-something kills.

Their range is just way too bad and they just don't work in this game's maps and modes, well aside from maybe TDM if you just want to camp in one indoor spot for the entire match. You'll always just get picked off from the range, not to mention if you miss a shot in CQC you're dead too because SMG's and AR's kill pretty fast (which is not bad).

Overall not only are they really bad in like all aspects, but they don't have any redeeming qualities whatsoever. If you want a CQC weapon you're just better off using SMG.

Balance is one thing, but this is unbalanced horribly. They need at least twice the range to be competent and in line with the other guns. Sure you can one-shot a guy if you muzzle stuff them, but if they're even 4 feet away it takes minimum of three shots to kill them, and if they take a step back in that time, they're now outside of range and dont even receive damage.

They're so poorly designed that the pellet tracers dont fade out when they reach max distance. they literally just terminate, its jarring to look at, especially when you just unload at a guy you could spit on and every pellet just dissapears an inch away from his face and you get murdered and see him at 150 health still.

The falloff needs to be drastically extended. Even buckshot in real life is capable of embedding itself in flesh from half a football field away.

Yeah while I agree that shotguns shouldn't have super long range, its like after 10 feet the pellets just disappear and do zero damage. Like yeah shotguns for FPS balance should have drop off, but its way too extreme in this game in my opinion.

they rly want the modern warfare 725 xD so they can it abuse it here aswell

No, we just want a shotgun that isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ absolute garbage.

I agree, even for FPS games shotguns are trash here. Even the shotguns in Hunt Showdown are better, and those are shotguns from 1895, while these are supposed to be modern/futuristic. At this point a spear would be better, and with longer reach.

git gud

I get more damage hip-firing a sawed off shotgun at 10 feet in CoD than I do with the shotguns in this game. I's not that they do no damage at range, it's that they only do damage at 5 feet away, far closer than any FPS I've ever played.
Shovel user Sep 9, 2022 @ 12:42pm
just do it like tf2, give shotguns infinite range like any other gun but just have quick damage fall off and spread over distance. like you could chip someone for 3 damage a pellet across the map if you want for one reason or another. the whole pellets dissappearing into thin air after 15 meters is just weird, damage fall of is a lot better and tf2 is a great example of good shotgun balance

While I know this is not anything new.. there aren't many current fps games that still employ this wildly 2002 logic..
