Now we're talking - great we can finally agree on something... :D
One of the best popcorn movies ever made. A timeless masterpiece right up there with stuff like Star Wars (the Original Trilogy that is), Indiana Jones (again: the trilogy), Back to the Future, Blade Runner, Alien/Aliens or Jurassic Park.
Without it I would not be here in the forum, would not have gotten interested in other comic/super hero movies, would probably never played the Arkham games and never started actually reading Batman comics as an adult.
Yep. And Robocop, Predator, Terminator 1&2, Superman The Movie and Superman II. All the classics.
Batman 89 is so beloved by me, i find it hard to chose between it and A New Hope for my favourite movie of all time.
Batman 89 turned me into a huge Batman fan. It was sad to see the 90’s movies get progressively worse. But now Burton’s Batman is having a resurgence.
Have you been reading the Batman 89’ comics?
Did you read Batman Resurrection by John Jackson Miller?🙂
Tbh. I did not mind too much, actually. I mean the Burton films ARE crazy films. Catwoman in "Returns" was cool, but especially Penguin's ending is very over top. So I maybe had less problems with Shoemaker's own kind of crazy than many other people. After all even "Batman & Robin" gave me a chance to get to know and add new villains to my back then rather small Batman pantheon... ;)
No, not yet. As the initial writer seems to have been involved, I actually thought about it. But there is SO MUCH other stuff to read.
That's a reason that kept me long away from reading comics, because I had not clue where to start. Acutally all the different suits in the Arkham games helped me figuring out what was important - if there is a suit, it's worth investigating where it comes from.
I just seen couple hours ago there is a new (real) book. Is it any good? Is it authentic? ;)
The 90’s films got progressively silly. In the 89 film the only real point of disconnect for me is when the Joker shoots down the Batwing with his long barrelled pistol. In Batman Returns there are many such moments. I still love the film, but it feels more like a dark fairytale rather than a movie trying to create a believable fantasy world. The 89 film is near perfect to me and the Arkham games feel very much in that line of thought. (It is awesome to wear the 89 Batsuit in Arkham Knight — I wish Rocksteady would revisit the games and let us play Asylum and City with that suit as well)
The novelisation is very good. It’s set about 6 months after the first movie, and includes characters specific from that movie such as Vicky Vale, Alexander Knox, and Laurance the goon. It also brings in a few characters from Batman Returns, so we get to meet them earlier than in that movie.
I won’t spoil the story, because it is very special and you should absolutely go in clean, but it’s a good one.🙂
Miller actually has a second novel, a sequel to Resurrection called Batman Revolution coming fall 2025. That will also be set before Batman Returns.
