21:9 headache-inducing FOV/aspect ratio issues
just move along if you have a 16:9 monitor and this doesn't apply to you, as 21:9 monitor users are still very much a small minority. i'm about to rant.

---

I tried not to complain and just play the game despite the frame hitches, inability to disable motion blur without crashing after the intro vids, and damn-near non-existent graphics options. I really did...

Some people watch entire shows/movies with 4:3 aspect ratios stretched out on 16:9 screens because they "dun like teh black bars" even if every person on the screen looks like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ oompa loompa. The pre-rendered vids stay at 16:9 just fine, but the game itself is an f'n mess.

Asylum and City never had this problem.

The very first in-engine scene in the game is Joker's face in the crematorium where on a 21:9 monitor, he has the face of a fat man and every circle is an ellipse. Oddly enough, once you have control of Bats in the third-person view, everything looks fine except some stretching near the edges, which is common in multi-monitor setups. ONLY when the game uses the in-game "cinematic" cutscene camera does everything start to look like ♥♥♥ flattened with a road roller. When you start a conversation with Gordon for instance, the camera zoom WAY in to the faces with an extremely low FOV.

I have tweaked the hell out of various .ini files, using every Unreal Engine trick in the book used in other games to try adjust the aspect ratio and FOV in this game.

Tried "AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV" in BmEngine.ini? Check.
Tried adding "FOV xxx" under Bindings in BmInput.ini and DefaultInput.ini? Check.
What about the various FOV settings in BmSystemSettings.ini? You bet.

First and last pre-order in 30 years of gaming. Thought I could place some faith in Rocksteady. Stupid me. It's 2015 and some devs/pubs are dead set on taking giant leaps backwards.

That really sucks! I recently got a 21:9 monitor and it worked really well with Witcher 3 (although I have to used a modified exe from wsgf to be able to have cutscenes in 21:9). Having 21:9 is amazing and it should be a standard for developers to implement. I find the experience FAR better and much more immersive.

I preordered this game on PS4 and am going to keep it sealed until both Digital Foundry come out with their analysis on which version is better and wsgf has some information on the 21:9 support. Then depending on whether performance is good on PC and if it supports 21:9 decently (or if there is an easy fix) I will either return the PS4 version to amazon and buy the PC version or keep the PS4 one.

Keep a look out on http://www.wsgf.org/ as they will have some sort of forum posts or something up soon I imagine on the 21:9 support

But it very much DOES apply to us. It's like looking through a mini pair of binoculars with the default FOV.

It wasn't meant to offend, but I was pretty pissed off when I wrote the thing.

I only wrote that to prevent people saying "you're in a tiny minority, so your opinions don't matter" bs.

Weird. I'm also running a 21:9 monitor, and nothing like that happenes. Instead of zooming in mine just kicks two black bars up on each side of the screen. Does it with The Witcher 3 as well. I only have the first encounter with Gordan on the roof at the beginning for reference though (waiting for the patch to be released to continue), so maybe it happenes later.

Yep. I'm definitely doing that, but it's pretty much null at this point. Been following wsgf since the dawn of 16:10 monitors. :summerskull:

are you sure you're not talking about pre-rendered cutscenes? I get the bars on the sides for pre-rendered videos - I was referring to in-game conversations with characters.

btw, what resolution are you running? I'm running 3440x1440.

That might be why I haven't seen anything odd yet. Like I said, I've only got that first scene where you make your way to the top of the building to meet Gordon near the bat signal (where you get the order to save the officer) for reference. I'm running 2560x1080.
