Stuttering down to 1-2 fps when using the grapple hook, fighting or divebombing.
Hi, I recently bought Arkham Knight and whenever I perform any heavy-duty actions my game lags into nothingness. Is there any known fix for this? Overall I am running uncapped 50-60 fps, no problem at all it's just as soon as I do something it's like looking at pictures, I can literally put my controller down for a couple of seconds between every punch because of all the heavy stuttering.

Fixes that I have tried:

- Editing INI files.
- Editing NVIDIA Control Panel 3D settings & PhysX settings.
- Downloading the newest NVIDIA drivers.

My rig:

GTX 770 4gb
16 gb RAM
i7-3770 3.40 Ghz

Thanks in advance.

We are all waiting for the game to be fixed, thats why the game isn't being sold any longer.
You will need to wait for a patch (or patches) like the rest of us to be able to play.

Everyone has those drops...

I know people have gameplay issues, but I also know people with similar or the same rigs as mine that don't at all, therefore things can be done to the point where I can play it. I know it's not fully playable, but the stuttering issues that I have; I have not seen before :) but w/e

Well, stop doing those things, and you'll be golden.

Jokes aside: wait for WB to release the fixed game.

Don't uncap it for now.

I had the same issues before I uncapped it in the INI files...

There are known issues with stuttering during fast movement through the world due to resource streaming/precaching issues. We have one patch already, and more will be coming, but we don't have a time scale.

With that said, not really sure how you're measuring your framerate, but I doubt that it's really dropping to only 1-2 fps. It might SEEM that way because of the stuttering,

It's possible that if your disk system is slow then that could exhasperate the behaviour. Make sure your storage device is set to "ACHI" mode in BIOS for best storage system performance. If it's not, this can be changed, but some Registry tinkering is necessary to do it. Google around for info.

Make sure your drive isn't heavily fragmented, if it is, defrag it. Yes, this includes SSD's too. Ignore anyone who says "OMG DONT DEFRAG SSD!" They're parroting outdated information which is no longer applicable. Windows can and will defrag an SSD when it's necessary, which it generally isn't unless it specifically says "needs optimization", but even if it doesn't, it's perfectly safe and will NOT cause any serious negative effect to do so occasionally.

see http://www.hanselman.com/blog/TheRealAndCompleteStoryDoesWindowsDefragmentYourSSD.aspx for more info about that.

Make sure your OS, drivers and all redistributables are up to date too. Shutdown any other open runjning programs as well to free up memory resources. (this is probably not an issue unless you really have a ton of stuff running, but the game can use upwards of 5-6GB or more if the resources are there.

the cap is not the issue.

The only thing that was interesting to me is I have seen people have general stutter problems and similar but my game literally freezes to 1 fps for about 5 seconds in about a 10-15 second wave whenever I do something, throw a punch, grapple, divebomb. But when I glide, run or dodge it doesn't affect game performance. Weird.

Thanks for the ingoing answer, i'll check some of these things out, if it ends up being too much then i'll just wait for patches.

Thanks.

I find the fix, turns out my PS3 controller was causing the frame drop.

Once I use my keyboard I am fine 24/7.

So you're saying it stalls for excessive periods of time? It's not just the typical stuttering that most are experiencing?

That's pretty interesting. Have you looked at what mode (Legacy IDE or ACHI) the disks are running in?

No, not the typical stuttering, it drops to a photo frame for a couple of seconds every time I perform an action but as soon as I use my keyboard instead (with controller still connected, in same session) it works seemlesly constant 50-60 fps, except when in the Batmobile of course.

No idea, didn't get time to look at any disk/BIOS settings.

It sounds like you are having issues with Interactive Smoke/Fog and Interactive Paper Debris. At least, all the instances where you seem to be experiencing the issue is right at the points where those features are used heavily. Mostly Interactive Smoke/Fog.

Have you tried turning them off? Or turning down all graphic settings to minimal?
