Run the game off the EXE
If I launch the game via steam my hard drive flogs so much I get <1fps due to frame locks of upto 30 seconds. This happens 10 seconds into the coffee shop scene and continues into the game making it unplayable.

However if I launch the game straight from its folder (with steam open) amazingly the game is fully playable 25-40fps.

I have a Q9550 + 6Gb Ram + 2Gb 960 EXOC (All Stock) and have played approx 30%-50% of game, runs just a ♥♥♥♥ as any other game on my old system now :-)

Game runs good for me from Steam, but it's very nice to see someone here trying to do something to help instead of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time.

Steam runs the same executable file. This does nothing different.

I would think so too but something happens in the handoff from steam to the game EXE on my system.
I do not use steam overlay and still get issues on any game that starts to push my system. If I launch any newish 3d game from steam it just seems to punch my pagefile, even non-steam games.
Witcher 3 gets loads of load stutter in towns if I launch from steam, launch from EXE and I get no issues.
Robocraft gets 15fps more if I load the EXE (this does not flog the hard drive though)

I don't know what causes this, a format did not help, however I am glad I found out about it.

I am using mechanical laptops hard drives too by the way.

That is odd... I've never had any issues with Steam like that, just the odd glitch because of Steam overlay but not a drop in performance. Maybe it's HDD-related or just something specific to your system.

I get as good at 80FPS in certain areas but as low as 10 FPS while flying around the city. It's brutal.

I'm beginning to think they tested the game on one PC and it worked so they figured it was good to ship out.

I get some stuttering in towns in Witcher 3 but I assumed that was just because of the amazing amount of detail in the dense area. Just for the hell of it, I'll try running from the .exe and see if I get a difference too.

I tried it man. Sorry but it didn't made any difference for me. I might try it with the other games though like the Witcher 3 although I'm okay with that game's performance overall, a few extra FPS wouldn't hurt.

Sorry to hear it didnt work. Im almost certain its a symptom of my low system specs.

Yes ! So my old rig can run it too !! It's also a Q9550 (o/c to 3.4) , 8gb of ram , but a weak (today standards) gtx 460 . Put a stronger card & good to go ... and play it on a 1440 x 900 monitor . Wait , that's Xbox One territory...lol...

It's okay man. At least you had an idea and it's not as invasive as say editing the .ini so it's easy to check and painless to try.

It sure can as long as your definition of "running it" is more flexible than some, I get load hitches every now and then, like split second pauses, I can handle it but I dont want to.

I was planning on a Mobo + CPU for next upgrade but an SSD is more important now that every game uses streaming engines.

I like to know why they recommend pc users to intall game on a ssd while the consoles are on normal hdds . They claimed that on Arkham City too ...
