Since when does a GTX 970 gpu get considered a "mid-level" card?
It has been posted by several members lately that a GTX 970 is a mid-range graphics card. Since when is a card in the top 5 best performing cards available on the general market (I'm not counting cards that cost more than my first car ~ $3000 USD+) considered mid-level?

Just genuinely curious is all. I have a GTX 970 and it performs fairly well, I'd say. Are these folks going on a skewed distribution scale, where 98% of the cards available are low end cards, 1% are mid-level, and the remaining 1 % are high level?

No, mostly trolls. GTX 970 is really not a mid-end card.

nVidia GTX x70 and above are high level cards. Mid level cards are typically the GTX x50, x50TI, x60, x60TI (note: not all cards have a TI version).

I am guessing that 970 SLI would run any game out on highest settings. I have one now and going to add a 2nd. But there are no games out now that I cannot run on highest settings wth a single 970. I typically will drop some settings in some games so that I can get higher FPS, but I can run anything on maxed out settings, including this game.

You know, some people with Titan SLI will say that 970 is a mid level card because it makes them feel like more of an elitist pc gaming snob than us other elitist pc gaming snobs with lowly 970s.

Actually...SLI won't help you here. The game doesn't support it. And if you do force it on, it makes the performance WORSE.

Titan's arent that impressive to be honest, just expensive. the MSI gtx970 is by far one of the best cards out there.

2nd card in PhysX does wonders actually.

It is more of a "budget" high end card than mid range. If you overclock it you can even get better performance than a stock 980.

So I've heard. I have a 660 OC as a 2nd card dedicated to PhysX. Honestly, I don't know if that's helping or not, but the game runs very well for me with my current setup.

Best bang for your buck in my opinion. I did lots of research before deciding to go for the 970. For $700 you can have 970 SLI. A single Titan is more than $1000.

Yup, ive got mine OCéd at just slightly above 980 and it works wonders. at 85% load, stable at 65 Celcius :)

@Hyperion

That too, the 970 is best bang for buck.

But then my OCed 980 does better :D Actually i'm waiting on EVGA's stepup so I can move to the 980TI.

Not that it will matter for this game :(

I've been playing around with MSI afterburner to overclock my card. I definitely get better performance in games with it overclocked around +150 on core clock and memory clock. If I push it to 200 it seems like it starts to get unstable. I really don't know what I'm doing though, I probably have to learn a lot more about overclocking to get the best out of my 970.

980 ti can run this game at 4K at consistent 50 fps. so yeah, i think it will matter.
Kr0nyk Jun 27, 2015 @ 10:35am
I guess people call it mid-range from that dumb 3.5GB + 512MB vram fiasco which didn't get it recalled. As people have already said, the 970 isn't in that class.

I own the card and I runs fine for me. Sadly not to well on this game or Wicther 3 with Gameworks enabled, but for what it is worth it is a good card.

Bang for buck, 290x wins no question at the highend, and yeah I would consider 970 a highend card. Only people that don't call 970 a highend card are Titanx/980Ti owners trying to justify their purchase. That being said, I have owned SLI 970's, and 980's, and would take a single 980 over SLI 970's.
