I'm using a R9 280x on an AMD processor (Can't remember the exact model right now, it's an 8-core @4Ghz tho).
At 1600x900, idling on the main menu easily consumes over 6GB of RAM on my machine, once it starts trying to demand more than the machine has (8GB at present), flickering starts, visual corruption and finally CTDs.
Lowering the resolution to really stupidly low values makes the Main menu (and the game) more stable on machines with between 6-8GB RAM.
If possible check the bmsettings ini file and see if you can manually reduce the resolution then see if it will at least load the main menu for you. If it does, you then at least know that is the problem even if it means you have no hopes of ever playing the game as it currently is.
