Story wise Origins is a prequel to all others, so it could be argued it should be played first. But there are no real spoilers there - and the progression of game mechanics and complexity does not make Origins the best game to start the series with.
Arkham Asylum
Arkham City
Arkham Origins
Arkham Knight
For story:
Arkham Origins
Heart of Ice DLC
Arkham Origins Blackgate
Arkham Shadow (when it releases)
Arkham Asylum
Arkham City
Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC
Arkham Knight
All Arkham Knight DLC
....
and....
if you're really committed to a 100% completion for the canon story....
*sigh*
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
I know, I know, but whether we like it or not, it's canon. So technically, if you're willing to suffer through it, that's the end of the story so far.

If you care about canon, you can't play any of those games beyond Arkham Asylum - because there is no real canon here.
There are inconsistencies betwen basically all the game maps.
There are inconsistencies especially for Harley Quinns story as well as many other characters.
The establishe "canon" timline does not make any sense, especially the "canon" timeframe between Origins and Asylum does not really add up.
So seriously: who cares about canon? I don't.
Canon is only a vehicle for greedy corporations to shove unpopular material and silly story contradicitons down some stupid fans' throats. If content creators really cared about "canon" they would only have to be more carefull and precise when creating their stories. Problem solved.
So the only instances qualified to define my canon is myself... ;)
P.S.: Also no totally correct. If you're so detailed about this you should note that Arkham Knight DLC Matter of Family is set before Arkham Asylum. And the Harley Episoe in Arkham Knight also only makes sense if set before the main story... ;)
Ha, completely forgot about that one.
Is it ok if I don't play all the additional dlcs and just stick to the 4 base games??
Sure none of the DLCs are really relevant for understanding the main story. It's not that complicated.
However some of that DLC stuff is really good (Cold Cold Heart in AO for example or Matter of Family in AK), so you should play them at some time. Also they usually are not that long, a few hours max. So it's no like you're postponing the next games for weeks or so... ;)
