Batmobile will not shift gears--bug?

When driving the batmobile, the car won't shift out of first gear, meaning I cannot pass the first driving mission and thus cannot progress the game.

Is this a known issue or a new bug? I've searched around but haven't seen this issue with other people.

The only gears are "Park, Reverse, Drive and Afterburner". You need to use afterburner.

In order to utilize the Afterburner boost, drop off your first villain at GCPD and then listen to the expository voiceover before exiting GCPD garage for the first time. Doing so will unlock the boost. The car will shift automatically but you must drift periodically (recovery braking) to recharge the boost feature. Also, constant boost depletes its efficiency.

There is no gear shifting. There's only fast and faster (afterburner).

It makes acceleration noises similar to shifting, but true, we don't actually shift gears.

It's an automatic (which makes sense, it would be kind of hard for the car to drive itself if it couldn't gear shift on its own).

Should have specified--the car is automatic, but will not shift gears. As in, the car is literally stuck in first gear, and the afterburner does not work at all....

Did you unlock afterburner yet? You have to complete "X" % of the story to get it. It isn't automatically unlocked.

That explains the afterburner part--probably not far enough. Still am not sure why the car won't shift out of first gear. Every video I've seen shows the car going faster than mine is currently going. Very bizarre. I guess it's a bug, Will uninstally and reinstall and see if that fixes anything.

See, you probably should have led with that. It has nothing to do with gear shifting (since that concept is kind of irrelevant in the context of this game). How much of a speed difference would you say it is?

If it's not too late, I would try verifying the game cache first. That'll take a lot less time than reinstalling the game, and will likely have the same effect.

Element731, there are also two afterburner boost upgrades available for puchase from the WayneTech / Batmobile menu, Afterburner Recharge 2 and 3. Did you purchase those upgrades? They become available when you exit the GCPD garage, if you got that far in the game.

If you are stuck on the very first Militia chase in the game after rescuing the threatened officer, you're going to have to take down their vehicle using the Immobilizer. To aid you in your pursuit, you might want to get out of "Vanity View" and into "Windshield View" so you concentrate on what's in front of you while driving, not on how cool the car looks from behind.
