Is there no way to manually save?

This is annoying. It doesn't save automatically when you buy upgrades, etc. so I'm seemingly forced to progress through a mission objective to get anything to save.

There's no manual save per se. However entering buildings, finishing parts of a side quest like destroying a watchtower or collecting riddler's trophies work as a manual save of sorts. I play all arkham games and saving that way is just as good as a regular manual save.
