Was this game a financial failure ?
Since after this game, Warner Bros games put this franchise into rest and focused on a Suicide Squad game and that Ghotam Knights which there isn't Batman in any of them.

On the otherhand, Mortal Kombat X also came out in 2015, but got a sequel 4 years later.

Yeah, a VR game and not an actual sequel.

arkham knight is the fastest-selling game of the arkham franchise.

by october 2015, the game sold over 5 million units worldwide.
IDK man, from what I know, successful games always get sequels.

When it hasn't got anything(other than a short VR game which reuses assets from AK) it makes me feel that maybe it wasn't really successful enough.

Spider-Man 2018 at least got some sort of expansion/half-sequel after 2 years. It's been 5 years and Batman:AK didn't get any.

Think Rocksteady considered the trilogy final after AK, as basically Batman is 'no more' if you follow the story.
Seeing there's a new Batman game in the works (that doesn't really feature him) I'd say that that will be the spiritual successor to the Arkham trilogy (not counting Origins), and will be as close as you can get to a new game that somewhat has a similar playstyle.
I'm quite glad there isn't more, as I hate the milking of a franchise a la Call of Duty with a new game every year. That something was really good doesn't mean it'll stay good if it gets a new lick of paint every year, hehe. I love a good pancake, doesn't mean I want one for every meal.

Batman could get good sequel treatment instead of getting COD style sequels after Arkham Knight.

For example they could make a Batman game where Joker isn't in there.(Or a Batman game which you actually are in Gotham instead of being in a area that is in control of Arkham Asylum psychos , Or a Batman game which you can pilot the Bat Wing around and ride around Gotham on his motor bike.)

They just decided to stop the franchise for some reason.

Rocksteady already said years ago that they´re done with Arkham Games after Arkham Knight (Understandable. Except "Urban Chaos: Riot Response" for PS2/XBox they only made Batman Games.) I can well imagine that they wanted to try something new and WB granted their request.
https://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/28/the-end-of-arkham-why-rocksteady-is-done-with-batman

I can also imagine that WB decided to consider the Arkham Games as a "Rocksteady Thing".That that might be one Reason why WB Montreal never made a sequel to Origins and now start a own Series with "Gotham Knights"

I believe they stopped sequels because they kinda peaked with the gameplay, and to be honest it as getting kinda boring and old at that point. The fighting was just pretty much mindless by then.

Developers already give hint about next game when finished Arkham Knight. May be they are working on new title. This is my opinion only.

How ?
I watched my brother playing it and it kinda looked like the same as before with some few differences here and there.

I'm not sure if that's the main reason they stopped it. Since if they wanted they could just change the way that combat works.(Similar to the way that that Gotham Knights doesn't feature free flow combat.)

I don't think they ever released any official sales records, but a quick google shows that it sold at least 5M units within the first few months, so at a release price of $60, that would be about 300M gross, probably much more overall since then.
Either way, they kept making new games in the series, and still are so....

no guessing is required. They were simply done with the story and wanted to move on to something else.

But Warner Bros didn't get 300M gross though.

1.First of all 30 percent of the 60 dollars goes into the pocket of platform holder.(Microsoft,Sony and Steam)

2.And if you get a retail version, 10 percent of the 60 dollars is for retailers and distributors.

3.And finally, I'm not sure if everyone bought the game at the 60 dollars price within the first 5 months.

Half Life 2 at least got some sort of sequel with those Episode 1 and 2 games and I remember reading somewhere that after that the third game was gone into a development hell.
