Awfully made riddle to rely on such finkey controls.
This comment is confusing. You say the line launcher would never work with the default controls, and you ended up having to resort to holding the left stick while gliding. But... that is the default control for deploying the line launcher while gliding!
So I assume you mean that you could never get it to work when trying to do it the way depicted in the video Manu' posted. Which is not surprising because that way is NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK! It was a bug that it ever worked at all, and the game was patched to prevent it from working. It's an embarrassment that there are videos out there erroneously instructing people to do it that way.
It's an unusual puzzle as I don't recall previous instances outside of this one in any of my many playthroughs of the games where you had to deploy the line launcher while gliding, and that's why I was unfamiliar with this method, which is what I meant in the post you quoted - I had always found a good place to stand and then lined up two anchor points and then deployed the line launcher. The way the video linked above shows a solution is exactly the way I tried to solve it as well - launched above the car, found spot to stand between two walls or anchor points and then tried to deploy the line launcher just as you do in countless other instances across the (4) games. IMO, it was not a good design for the mission to remove that as a solution since it's such a commonly utilized mechanic throughout the franchise. Every time I play this game and do it, the line launcher usually won't even deploy on the first try with the gliding / holding LS. It's just a wonky mechanic and puzzle.
Perhaps. But, in my experience, when people make that claim about this particular puzzle, it always turns out they were just doing it wrong. I've never once, in five years, seen anyone offer credible evidence of an actual bug here. If you have a video of what you describe happening (line-launcher while gliding, but the barrier never comes back on), I'd be interested in seeing it. Don't go out of your way, though.
If there is a bug, it may be related the the screen resolution. Apparently, cranking it too high can cause weird things to happen with the game.
