No critical strikes for the Arkham Knight
I noticed while playing Red Hood/Arkham Knight that I'm not recieving criticals even if I correctly time an attack. Even with different variations of timing, like a little later or early I'm still not getting the critical strike bonus.
I did some testing and I get it with Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, thus far and they work perfectly fine and most importantly consistently.
I told my friend to try, that was playing on a PS4 on my other monitor using Red Hood and consistently getting criticals and just out of ease of use he used a controller so we wouldn't have to go through the trouble of exchanging spots for his comfort.
He was easily able to get criticals. And I tried doing it right after, and still failed to recieve even one critical. But then I attempted with controller and it worked perfectly.

I really don't understand how this is happening or how to fix this. Has anyone had this issue or know anyway how this could be caused?

This might seem like a silly question, but do you actually have the critical strikes upgrade unlocked? You said you can do it with a controller, but was that on your PC, or your friends PS4?

What Mouse? Do you have any special mouse software installed?

No, no, anyone can overlook the simple stuff. So I don't mind questions such as those.

Yes, indeed I do. I have 100% the game completely, besides a couple of AR challenges, I have every achievement and upgrade etc.

Yeah so I was watching my friend do the same AR challenge on his PS4 (the one where with Azarel with infinite enemies but a time limit and you can't get hit)

And yes, this was done on my PC, when he used a controller on my PC he was able to get criticals with ease. But in the same exact moment without even restarting I tried to do so with my mouse and I couldn't get criticals at all, even when I timed in multiple ways and variations. He allowed me to try with controller and I was able to do criticals.

Deathadder Elite I believe

From my memory, only the Razer softwares. But I believe it might be an issue with the game if I can get criticals with other characters with my mouse, just not Red Hood.

Either way, I appreciate the help and effort x). Honestly, thank you

I think there was a fuss about Batgirl's disarm/destroy move not working with KB+M. I don't think it was resolved and I wonder if it's just an annoying bug like that one. If that was the case though, I'd expect more people to report it.

That makes sense.

I can confirm your findings. Strikes initiated for Red Hood with the left mouse click don't seem to be able to go critical (except for a final strike that ends a battle, which can be critical for whatever reason). Strikes with a gamepad input can be critical.

I remember someone pointing this out a couple of years ago, but I thought it was a difference between PC and console versions of the game. I guess it's actually another keyboard issue.

Both of these make perfect sense and tho it doesn't exactly resolve my issue. It's definitely a breath of fresh air to figure out that I'm not the only one's with these problems. Sucks to keep searching on something no one else has trouble with :p.

If you're looking for a resolution, I can tell you what I did just a bit ago that seemed to work. (WBIE/Rocksteady refused to fix completely missing keyboard controls even back when the game was current, so there's no chance they'll fix this issue now; I'm afraid a workaround is the best you can hope for.)

First, check this thread for a description of the three pieces of software I installed to work around the Batgirl issue.

Then, for the critical strikes issue, I bound Red Hood's strike to "unassigned" and configured UCR to map a left click to a press of the X button on the virtual joystick. I was able to get critical strikes using my mouse with this setup. Perhaps surprisingly, I was also able to use environmental takedowns (which effectively use a combination of a keyboard key and a virtual gamepad button)!

Of course, you probably want to enable this mapping only when you're playing as Red Hood. I tried leaving it enabled while playing as Batman (without unassigning his strike key) and it interfered with his ability to get critical strikes. I could have tried just unbinding strike from everyone and using the virtual gamepad X button for everybody's left click, but I didn't want to test to see whether that broke anything, in particular for Batman.

(Annoyingly, as I type this, the website for one of those pieces of software -- vJoy -- seems to be down, although you can still get to the download via archive.org; hopefully the real thing will be up soon.)
