Try to memorise and anticipate, use the few turns to your advatage; if you drift on the corners you'll recharge the afterburner allowing you to use it ahead of time.
Putting all this to practice should give you more time so you won't have to use the afterburner in the last part.
You saw in the videos that players slow down in that last part because they probably don't use the afterburner. The afterburner gives you plenty of speed but you can't do sharp turns with it which is why is not helpful, you need precision in that last stretch.
I've done all the races with k+m, so it's not impossible to do. Also I have not tried this but other players say it's easier to drive while in 1st person mode, maybe give that a try.
