From what I understand, to use a controller through steam, you need to assign a profile for that game to use a controller. Most newer titles have them already but some do not. Its why when viewing your library in big picture mode, the game will have a keyboard icon on its grid artwork rather than a controller.
Try choosing "manage game" and changing the template to "gamepad" seems to work for most awkward games.
Or just use an x-input wrapper and be able to see battery life and use the controller without such headaches.
Its great valve added native support, but like most things they do, its half-assed to say the least.
I forgot to add that all my games on steam (The ones with Xbox controller support) work with my controller because Steam emulates an Xbox controller with my DS4 controller, however Batman Arkham Knight does not need an emulated Xbox controller to work with DS4 since it has native DS4 support. In other words if I disable Steam controller support for the game, then the controller should still work but it doesn't.
I can enable Steam sontroller support for the game, but then the layout will be in Xbox format, and what is the use of that since the game has native DS4 support.
I also noticed that there is no way for Steam to show your controller's battery percentage (Which is weird). Atleast they could have made it so that your light bar indicates roughly how full your battery is, with color (Like with DS4Windows). Or just displaying the rough percentage in the Steam Overlay, but oh well :).
Why do you want to use your controller without DS4Windows? You can calibrate settings, and the input times are far more accurate. I highly recommend dling the third party support. This game plays flawlessly on my DS4.
I also have the game on the PS4. If you need help with the layout, let me know. Just imagine an X-BOX controller and replace the letters with symbols.
A (Jump + Run) = X.
X (Punch) = Square.
Y (Block/Counter) = Triangle.
B (a relatively useless button for the game) = Circle.
R2 is the same for crouch. Actually, all trigger buttons are the same as what the game displays.
The D-Pad mapping is universal for all controllers. Whatever direction it shows in the game is the same direction you use on the DS4's D-Pad.
I've had no trouble with running the game with DS4Windows and using the DS4. It's all very intuitive with no issues concerning input reaction times. Fluid and smooth.
Then I decided to remove my DS4 wireless adaptor and disable steam's PS4 controller support. I then connected my DS4 with a USB cable and then magically it worked again. Not only does it work, but it also displays the DS4 layout instead of the Xbox layout in the game.
This game has issues, lol.
glad this game was 5 bucks ...
oh and close ds4windows if you have that running.
Beware this game has hidious controls doesnt matter what you use...
