Resolution Problem
Recently I purchased Kotor 2, but I have noticed that the screen resolution is waaaaay to low, its like playing it on a DS. (lol) Anyways, ive tried adjusting the .ini files, but then this either does nothing, or makes the resolution become too large and mess up the game menus. If anyone knows how too fix this problem, please let me know!

For some reasons that are unknown to me there is no Widescreen Patch that works with the latest Version of KotOR II. The highest Resolution supported by the game is 1280x1024 and you won't get any better than that.
Only way to get widescreen patch working is by reverting back to an earlier version of the .exe file and using a patcher which sadly reintroduces bugs into the game.

♥♥♥♥ sucks to be honest, at least there are flawless widescreen solutions for the first game

I had a similar issue. INI changes did nothing and the resolution selector in game was blank. I switched out the Display Port Cable to an HDMI cable and now its working. I assume the DP cable could not output any resolution the game really liked.

I don't get it, my Kotor 2 has a resolution of 1600x1200. Howcome everyone seems to have lower resolution???

Go here and get the squizzy widescreen patch:

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Knights_of_the_Old_Republic_II_%E2%80%93_The_Sith_Lords#Squizzy_Kotor2_Resolution_Patcher

It works perfect with steam

Don't forget to also get the mini-map fix for your appropriate ratio.

Thanks for the help guys, kinda weird that valve has never bothered to fix this problem, so I'll probably have to give the squizzy patch a try. :P

I still don't get it, i didn't download any patch. And i can set the resolution to 1600x1200 in the options.. :/

Squizzy's patch is an old EXE that introduces game breaking bugs. Don't use it. The only way to get widescreen fix is if someone knowledgeable takes a hex editor to the new steam executable. I tried but it looks like half of the executable is entirely different. I cannot find the values to edit compared to the retail version. It's as if part of the executable is encrypted or something because if you compare the lastest retail version with steam version they are almost entirely different. If someone knows why this is I can tell you what hex codes to alter and their offset as they are in the original executable. I even ran a lua script looking for these hex values and their offset and it turned up nothing.

Does anyone know if this is a direct cause of the new Steam CEG file protection thing?

Honestly the best thing you should do if you are using the Restored Content patch is to put it on the highest resolution (1280x1024) in windowed mode. Alt+Tab then drag the window up and you'll stay at that windowed resolution with black bars on the side. It's not that bad. Using Squizzy's you'll miss out on tons and tons of bug fixes if you use it.

Again, surprised Valve has never taken the time to fix an almost game ruining problem. -_-

Okay, this is the thrid time saying this... my Kotor 2 has widescreen, it has 1600x1200 resolution, and only looks abit low-res in cutscenes. How come most others don't have ????
Revolucas Nov 23, 2012 @ 7:39pm
1600x1200 is not widescreen it's 4:3 and I believe it will only show up if your monitor supports that resolution natively and most do not. I don't think forcing it through config will work either unless your monitor supports it.

It shows up as widescreen, there are no black lines etc. at the resolution looks good. What i don't get is, why do i have the option to choose 1600x1200, when most others seems to only be able to go up to 1280x1024 ?_?

You probably have the Disk version of the game installed, otherwise what Revolucas said

I don't i bought the game 3 days ago on steam, first time ever playing or owning it. So i don't get how i can have 1600x1200, and others don't.. not complaining though xD, but im pretty curius about it.

Can I borrow your computer for the weekend in that case?
Crossbow Nov 25, 2012 @ 12:43am
My primary length for resolution exceeds that of 1280, I just put my resolution on highest option with 75 bit on. I don't know what it's referring to by bit, nor am I sure if that works for my resolution, but I know I can see everything. It may be referring to the system I run on which is 64 bit; either way, that was the only resolution that worked. Have tried the funky resolutions that're default? If none of what these people said, and the unhelpful information I've provided: you're screwed, and you might as well throw your computer out a window (why else would you even have one if all does is scam you money?).
