Kotor 2 was never finished, that's why it was never released here
Kotor 2 is one of those "not finished" games. There's lots of content not implemented, and the game suffers of endless crashes and freezes that corrupt your save data and you have to start all over again.
The last missions don't make any sense because at least 5 main quest missions were never finished, and therefore, cutoff from the final release.
Are we to expect the same broken, unfinished game we all played 5 years ago?
Or is this Steam version any better than the original one?

Sounds like you're making ♥♥♥♥ up. Never had any of those problems when I was playing this for PC. Never crashed and never had a corrupt file. Whatever you were doing, was definitely a user error.

It rarely crushed on my non-Steam version, but yeah, its plot has lots of holes and it's obvious many content were cut off.

I had one issue today when I chose to put down my weapons instead of first asking “who are you”? in the hidden academy. But beyond that it’s ran perfectly so far. I know Obsidian aren’t exactly good but it could be much worst, could be Neverwinter Nights 2.
Never played KOTOR 2 though until recently so I’ll be back when I’ve completed it.

Actually, according to this[www.vg247.com]

Obsidian’s stellar RPG will only cost you a measly £6.99, and it comes patched with the fully endorsed Sith Lords Restored Content Mod. The mod irons out bugs and enhances the game’s visuals.
So no need to patch it, it's already there, but if you're playing it non-Steam (which is sorta doubtful if you're here on the hub), do get the mod from here

Ok, that makes sense, Teutep, thanks for the info.
@Deku: Dude, go and investigate before accusing people of making ♥♥♥♥ up.
This game was NOT finished when it was released. Yeah, you could play it from beggining to end without problems, like I did the first time, but the second time I played, right after I played kotor 1, I realised that there were many plot holes, and I got stuck and got a corrupted save file.
I searched everywere for a solution, and there was none: I had to use an older save file, which I lacked because I did not know of the issue.
It might happen, it might not.
According to Teutep here, we shouldn't have this issue with the Steam version.
My comment was merely the answer to "why the delay?".
It was because it was an unfinished, buggy game for years, until people decided to patch it up.

I have the disc version of KOTOR II and got stuck at the very begining. I think something failed to trigger because I checked every inch of the laboratory area and no doors would open, there was no option to talk to anyone, open doors or find equipment. I just restarted but quickly quit and moved onto something else thinking I would come back to it. I'll definitely download the mod for my disc copy.

I do have to fix this, sorry, I forgot to add it here, that I was informed that while the article DOES say that, users say it does not. So I suppose if nothing, it's better to play on the safe side and do get the mod.

Once again, sorry for the confusion.

That's why i believe that "Now available" s**it for $10 is really out of place. The "Now for sale" at $3 (max) would be a suitable something. Cuz I'm really tired of Steam selling the games that need fixin' and tweakin' to work as good as they should. Why would I need a game as it was in say 1998 when I can get it for FREE you-know-where. But I'm an honest person, that's why I buy my stuff and not jusy DL it. You know people worked hard to bring us those masterpieces.

Let's take an example: the sale of Fallout on steam, well I bought it although I already OWN it (and I mean it) on GOGdotCOM. And what I get here in the end is an unplayable on my Win 7 crap with color trouble and all. The GOG version on the other hand has bonus content for old-school fans, is resolution patched and I GOT IT FOR FREE!

I'll leave the conclusions to y'all.
Tanuki__kun 2012 年 8 月 26 日 下午 8:39
I agree, $5 tops I would've paid to see if this version is any different than what we had years ago.
$10 might sound like cheap, but it deppends where you live and what your living costs are.

Too bad about that, Teutep, guess we'll have to wait and have more feedback from users who bought the Steam version.

The steam version of KOTOR2 is the exact same version of the retail game. It's not patched with the community fix.

it was finished obsidian whas pressured to cut content if it wasnt finished there wouldnt be a restored content mod
Tanuki__kun 2012 年 11 月 4 日 下午 12:25
Read above, the retail version of the game is the same Steam released for sale, therefor, you're paying money for a broken, unfinished game.
