Kotor 2 isnt starting at all

(Sorry for my bad English right away)
A few days ago I bought myself Kotor 2 and it worked pretty well on my old Laptop

(Win XP SP 3)

But due to performance issues I decided to install it on my tower PC

(Win 7 64bit)

, too. I installed it correctly I started it, but nothing happened. As i looked into the process list in the taskmanager i was able to see the process starting and vanishing without any error messages. I installed

(Win XP SP 3)

on the tower, updated it fully, and it didnt worked as well except the fact that a windows error message told me "windows occured a Problem..." and asked me if i would like an Error Report to be sent (yeah, i know, Microsoft and its Error Reports... -_- )


I will post my System Details in a minute, but do you have any Ideas what the issue could be?

tried out without sucess to run it in window mode already by changing the value in the configuration data, but I dont know how to run a program on a single core nor I know how to change my graphic card options. And please go more into detail with the sound thingy you mentioned

I have Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop, and trying to install KOTOR 2 from the discs gave me the exact same problem you're having. I can't find a way around it, can't even figure out what's causing the problem. I've heard from LucasArts support on the phone that both 1 & 2 apparently have severe compatibility issues with windows vista and 7... Running it through Steam works so far though, so I don't know what's going on O.o
I tried updating my graphics, but even that didn't help the disc version.

This MAY help you. I'm on windows 8, and it seems to run okay for me. I just made some changes to the configuration files to get it to run.

First, I deleted the leclogo.bik, ObsidianEnt.bik, and Legal.bik files from the game's folder (I just found them by searching, so I'm not sure what subfolders they were in). That gets rid of the opening videos (transitioning from those videos to the game used to make my old Kotor 1 game crash).

THEN open your SWKOTOR2.ini configuration file. In it you can overwrite all of the content with the following junk and it should set it to launch in windowed mode. You can change to full-screen once you're playing if it really matters, but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to launch in full-screen. Here's the content of my SWKOTOR2.ini file:
