Some of the reasons are: Jolee Bindo (that guy is just awesome, I always love what he has to say), end fight (I don't know what is opinion of other people, but for me, that Malak fight was always much more epic than all kotor 2 boss fights), nostalgia (Kotor 2 is nostalgic for me too, but not as much)
That being said, I agree that story of Kotor 1 is more simplistic, but well, story of Episode IV is also really simplistic and it is still my favourite Episode... so yeah :3
-You feel a lot more powerful.
-The story is mutch darker, also Dark side doesn't feel as "wrong" in this game as it did in KOTOR1.
But the plot twist in KOTOR 1 is amazing
Also, you were humorless if you were LS only, and you were an sadistic bastard if DS, neutral was the mix of moments as sadistic bastard and humorless goody two shoes.
KOTOR 2 was much better in that sense, both sides were filled by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you had a ton more of possibilities, and it wasn't so binary lightside/darkside. being lightside wasn't being a humorless goody two shoes and being darkside wasn't being evil for the lulz.
"You should starve to death to prove how manly you are."
That's actually a thing you can say to some Sith initiates, if memory serves.
I rather enjoy being a sadistic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in KotOR, at least in certain parts. "Father! Rahasia! Mr. Matale! Shen!" You all know you laugh when you slaughter them all, and you are all disgusting, wonderful people for it. I only let them live in my first LS playthrough. Then I learned you can do that... Nothing stands in the way of a Jedi with a morbid sense of humor!
EDIT~ Sorry, forgot to say. KotOR 2 is still better, in half a million ways. Though, you definitely need to play 1 first, especially for the SAGs. Unfortunately, in 1, the "final dungeon" is a pain in the ass, with endless waves of sith every 5 steps, and Malak is the easiest boss in the game (or you can be a dork and skip the fight with him... fun little easter egg, there).
You can be rather sadistic in this game, too. Keep in mind that KOTOR II lets you outright murder a child. You can argue that it is a "better fate" than slavery, but still - the game gives you that option.
