There are a few threads on these forums where people have gotten it to work - I don't remember the exact location offhand though. Haven't touched a "current" Mac in years. :)
Can't really be a game of chance - Either people are doing it correctly, or they aren't. The game isn't just rolling a die when it launches to decide whether or not to read its configuration files.
In fact some people did exactly the same and correct modifcations to the correct ini-file in the correct folder and the console is still not working.
Quit the game and make sure Steam isn't running.
Open the Finder and go to the menu bar at the top and select Go > Go to Folder
Type /Users/username/Library and click Go. (change "username" to your username!)
This will show the hidden Library folder. Now, look for a folder named Application Support.
Inside the Application Support folder you'll see a folder named Knights of the Old Republic
Inside this folder you will find the swkotor.ini file. MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS FILE FIRST!
Open the swkotor.ini file in TextEdit
Underneath the [Game Options] section add a new line and type: EnableCheats=1
Save the file and close TextEdit. Launch Steam and then open the game.
Type the ` key to enter the cheat codes (you'll get a tiny prompt in the upper left hand corner that is barely visible. It just looks like this: >). You can type commands after the prompt and press the Return (Enter) key. Nothing will happen on the screen but, if you go check your inventory you'll see that it worked. For example: I typed ` and then typed givecomspikes. I checked my inventory and had 100 computer spikes.
You should thank swanknode, I copied it from his post on the steam forums I found through google. Oh and at least on my Imac the prompt is invisible but the commands work just fine. If it doesn't work you probably mistyped. Try try try again. Oh and I don't know how to get the componets code to work, every time I try it takes some away from me. Thats what i get for being a cheater lol.
