Is there a way to edit the controller layout?
Don't get me wrong... the addition of controller support is awesome. I played the original KotOR and KotOR 2 a lot on my Xbox back in the day, so playing the games with a mouse and keyboard feels alien to me. Controller support is fine with this update for the most part, but at the same time it's... wrong.

I figured they would simply port the original console control scheme over, and that got it kinda right. The biggest problem I have is with the quick menu though.

On the Xbox, the triggers cycle targets, not the bumpers. the bumpers always emulated the white and black buttons on the original Xbox controllers, and those buttons cycled characters while playing. But in this version, the "quick menu" is how you cycle characters, which isn't intuitive at all. Even more perplexing is the fact that the triggers aren't use at all.

I understand some things like the actions for targets and such being left on the targets, which is a PC thing. On the console version, all prompts such as bashing doors are shown on the action bar, rather than under the targeting reticule. Which is perfectly fine. I'm sure altering that part of the UI would have been a pain, and it works for the most part with a controller just fine.

It's just mind-boggling to me that a character selection option would be hidden behind a "quick menu". Especially considering the game already had controls for switching characters (TAB on a keyboard), and considering the triggers aren't being used at all in this layout.

So... as I asked in my title for this. Is there a way to edit the controller layout? There has to be a file controlling that somewhere, right? I would really like to switch target toggling to the triggers, and character switching to one of the bumpers. Would also like to switch the solo mode or stealth mode buttons to the other bumper. It just seems way more intuitive to me.

1) There's no native way to change the controller layout. Not at present, at least.

2) You can cycle the party leader with the X button rather than having to go into the quick menu every time.

Really wish they would have controller mapping :(
Using the dpad to select for all of my abilities is annoying. Would like to use RT or LT for Ability 1 and 2

How do you get the controller to start working?

So long as it's an X-input controller (ie, Xbox 360 or Xbox One), it should just work if you have it plugged in. You'll know because there'll be Xbox controller button prompts all over everything. it has to be plugged in before you launch the game as I recall, though. I don't think it works if you plug in the controller while the game is already running.

Get a steam controller. Can map any game how you want.

If you're on Windows XP, Vista, or 7, you'll need drivers that you can find on Microsoft's website. Just look up Xbox controller drivers. Windows 8 and 10 come with the drivers pre-installed, so both Xbox 360 and Xbone controllers are plug-and-play.

There's also a way to spoof the Xbox controllers with a Playstation controller. I wouldn't know anything about that though, so google would be your friend there.

Oh, and as for this thread... I'm over it. I got used to the controller layout. Not sure why this was bumped, to be honest.
