You talk to him about his previous owners, and he eventually has a couple lines where he mocks the relationships had with Carth and/or Bastila in the previous game.
From the Steam achievement guide which is essentially the way I got it:
At any point after recruiting HK-47 for the Unadulterated Violence achievement, and after you've heard a fight between Visas and the Handmaiden (if male) or the Disciple and Atton (if female,) you can initiate conversation and ask him what he believes love to be. He will have a not particularly romantic response, and during this speech the achievement will unlock.
I did what was posted in comment #1 on this thread a while back and while what HK-47 says is funny, I can confirm it doesn't get the achievement. So for the achievement what you want to get is an influence gap between Atton and the Disciple or Visas and the Handmaiden -- be nice to one and a total jerk to the other to trigger an argument cutscene between them and then when you talk to HK 47 straight after this you should be given the option to now ask "HK, what is love?"
Story of my life :)
Atton/Disciple is a *lot* harder since Atton is so easy to get positive influence with. You pretty much need to abuse him fully on Peragus, then not have him around for random LS/DS hits on Telos, then abuse some more from learning his Echani stance. And when learning about Pazaak in his head.
