My first suggestion is to put the game into Windowed Mode (there's one other option, but I'd suggest to hold off on that for now). Since you already know how to get to the contents of the .ini file, just go ahead and change all of the references for "FullScreen" from 1 to 0, then add "EnableWindowedMode=1" at the bottom of the "[Graphics Options]" section.
While there, I also highly recommend adding spaces between each of the words in "DisableVertexBufferObjects". The config option is supposed to have the spaces, but Steam keeps generating that part of the file wrong, and having that option activated can make a noticeable improvement in graphics performance (in fact, it not being set right and on what is essentially a now-unsupported graphics card may also be contributing to your issue).
Edit 1* well almost there are still a few errors on the walls and such but i can see the floor now
