Force Speed and Valor are must haves if you're weapon-focused, Force Lighting and Kill if you're force focused. Honestly this game is really easy combat-wise... just be aware that the higher your level the 'harder' the bosses will be.
This is SWKOR II: The Sith Lords... Malak is from part 1, final boss here is Kreiah.
Yes, I'm aware of that. But the OP mentioned that he had difficulties beating Malak in the original game. My post was a remedy for those difficulties.
The other thing is that you often get clues when dealing with others. How did you defeat Sion? If you did it the hard way by simply keeping on wearing him down with a light saber then I admire your tenacity, but 0/10 for being smart. So part of how you can beat Traya is psychology and eroding her willingness to kill you. So don't provoke an attack early. The second key is when facing the 3 light sabers, run away. So Force Speed is important. Try and run off along one of the narrow paths other than the way you came in. That will leave Traya behind in the central area and hopefully one or even 2 of the sabers. Destroy the one or two sabers that do follow you, then go back far enough to lure any remaining sabres after you. Destroy them. Heal up and go back and confront Treya. You only have to drain her health once then persuade her you have learnt her "lessons" for her to give up and die.
Incidentally, Malak in Kotor 1, requires force speed, the strongest stims and the "throw saber" force power. Fight until he kills the first jedi then run away fast, killing the captive jedi with throw saber. Once they are all gone, Malak isn't that hard. Obviously use the best shields you have, etc.
Both of the above play out on the highest difficulty with no problems for me.
I don't know why people say Malak is hard. As I've said. the electric immunity belt on it's own completely neuters about half his attacks. Throw sabre is useful, but none of what you mentioned is 'required' at all. I must have played through that game several dozen times and I don't think I've ever used a stim at all. And you never need to run away. Buy the time you reach him you are pretty much a god in every thing you do - even on hard. Just go face to face, killing the jedi husks, and you'll drop him right sharpish, and you'd be very unlucky to lost 1/4 of your health.
The electrical immunity belt can be a great help but it is a relatively expensive item and if you want to buy it you will need to be quite focused on that. Whilst it negates one of Malak's favourite attacks, it does nothing to help your attacks. On hard difficulty the real benefit to Malak of the captured jedi is that draining one fully restores him. That is a significant boost.
Some force powers allow you to take out the captured jedi, others are ineffective. Throw saber is convenient and has other uses in the game.
It's been years since I played, so my memory may be faulty - but, IIRC the electric belt is loot. I do know that I had it on my very 1st playthrough.
Having said that, I've never been one to buy stuff from vendors in RPGs unless I know it can't be got any other way. So I may have simply had the creds to buy it because I'm miserly, lol. But, as said, I had it in my 1st playthrough, and without knowing of the Malak fight, I can't recall any other fight that would have caused me to buy it.
She is tough and difficult to wear down. Save before you confront her and look at what she can do to hurt your character and what you can do to her. Then build on that.
Hmmm. Looked it up and you are correct about the location. Price, however - it's only 8500 - not really that high unless you are being frivolous with your creds. Having said that, if forced to chose between that and the crystals from Yavin, Yavin wins every time.
