To work it via Nexus (or wherever you download it from), it has been a while since I set it up and played it so this may need to be re-explored, right click on kotor 2 in your library, go to betas and change it to legacypc. Let it reinstall the files (legacypc isn't compatible with workshop, thus why KOTOR 3 hosted in the workshop doesn't work. The file structure is different and the kotor 3 files get pointed to the wrong install areas during workshop setup), and then install KOTOR 3 from the nexus download.
It should work after that with minimal fuss. But you'll also lose all the mod support you have from already installed workshop stuff. So it's best to do this with a clean install of KotOR 2 specifically to play the mod, and then fresh install it again when you're ready to go back to the original.
If you get around to trying this method, lmk if it works. Like I said, it's been a number of years since I set this up on my end and played through it. So it could be I missed something. If so, I'll figure it out again and update.
