KOTOR III is way way way to popular of an idea for EITHER Disney or EA to let some indie group of people get the profits from it.
Now if it's not a scam at all and just a group of ignorant devs who don't have the best law team put together, then I hope they can persuade Disney and EA to let them develop it at their own rate. But EA is not known for it's patience and is known for being greedy. And unless Disney gives them the right to not use EA (and there might be contracts that prohibit that), they couldn't even threaten to take it somewhere else.
But right now, this is not looking like it's going to make it.
And when I say ignorant I do not mean idiot or stupid. Ignorant is just not knowing something. And they don't appear to be very knowledgeable about copyright law.
Yeah it was updated since i last saw it. Yeah this is a bummer.
It's not a scam. They were reqeusting to get it made but it was denied by lucas arts because we have the mmo. So in terms kotor3 will never happen anytime soon or at all. :(
I did say scam or ignorance.
They were asking for people to spend money on preorders already. Before they got permission from EA. That to me smelled of possible scam.
Hope they can get enough money before a cease and desist order comes in from the copyright holder. And then they can just tell the people who bought it that the copyright owner said no.
That's one possible reason.
Or they're ignorant of how the industry works and didn't get permission before going too far into actual production. Or took a gamble and lost.
My bet is not on the gamble. They said there were no copyright issues. There were. So there was some level of ignorance on their part. If there were no copyright issues, they wouldn't be stopped by EA. EA would have no legal grounds to stop them from making the game.
I don't know the creators so I can't say which is more likely or which is true. But given the site who had the information on it is a reliable one, does point to the ignorance reason over the scam reason. But I wouldn't call that a 100% deterrent from not getting caught by a scam. At least not for me.
If they are legit, I wish them well. And maybe see if they can't get a few successful games under their belt before the ten years passes. So when they go to EA (or whomever owns the rights at that point), they have some good games on their resume.
To be honest the whole time i wasn't completly sure that it was real or not but now i think it was real but not legal in terms of copyright. I wish them well since it seemed like they wanted to listen to the community unlike bioware or ea. They don't listen at all. Look how swtor turned out since they never listen to the majority who wanted a kotor3 and not an mmo that ruined revan and the exiles storyline. Swtor is a very good mmo but in terms of story it's not what the fans of kotor want and it's sad to say that swtor is what we are gonna get and we can't do a thing about it. I hope that one day they will turn around finally give what the kotor fans want.I wish the devs on that page and all the kotor fans well.
I'd actually have preferred it if EA had just given the group the go ahead. It's apparent they listened to the players. EA doesn't care about what we want. They care about what will make them money.
I play Sims 2 and Sims 3 fairly often. I know full well just how much EA listens to its customers. It's a major factor in why I'm not getting Sims 4.
Disney needs to give the game to another producer. Then I won't mind a KOTOR 3 being made. But I don't trust EA with games I like anymore.
I never played sims 2 but i play sims 3 alot so i know what you mean. Sims 3 is the most milked down and buggiest game i've even played. Why to they even have the nerve to make us preorder the next sequel to a series of games when the previous is left a total mess.
BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE everybody wants BIOWARE BIOWARE BIOWARE
EA owns Bioware. So not Bioware. Unless EA gives them a written contract that says Bioware gets to control the release date, pricing, and everything else.
As much as I love both games and even though I really wanted KOTOR 3 made after I first finished KOTOR 2, I don't really know anymore; honestly, I kinda think The Old Republic and the Revan novel ruined the possibility of it ever happening. It is now canon that Revan and the Exile were defeated shortly after KOTOR 2 and that for 300 years, the Republic was rebuilt and maintained peace. So, if they did anyting it would have to be somewhere in the Star Wars timeline after the Old Republic and upto the Darth Bane books (1000 years before Episode IV)
