Darth Nihilus (Spoilers)

So just finished the game for the first time (blind) and did I miss something significant? Because this guy just shows up, gets killed, evaporates and the only thing I really knew about him was he was a hungry boy.
It just feels a little weird considering how prominently he features in the games artwork and such.

There's some In-game dialogue lore and notes you can pickup. For the Dialogue lore talk to Kreia, Visas and any other Jedi/Sith you can talk to. I think the Jedi Masters have a line or two iirc but I know Visas and Kreia can elaborate some on him.

"Cool scary dude in mask" is easy marketing material. Just look at Revan.

Have you tried playing with the Restoration mod? He gets some additional scenes to help with the menacing nature, and it fixes the bug where his stats are swapped with Colonel Tobin on the Ravager.

As pvt900 notes, a lot of his lore and history is locked behind the dialog of other characters, especially Kreia. This is the modus operandi of the game in general, but for characters like Nihilus it's unfortunately almost all they have.

Yeah I've been reading about the restoration mod a lot poking around forums now I've finished the game, I'll definitely install it when I decide to do another play through. Kinda sucks I missed it but I basically jumped straight in to this game hot of the heels of getting the first one in the sale, which was a blast when I finally got it working.

Kreia and visas give you the lore about him.

He was a Jedi in the mandalorian war who was on malachior when you activated the mass shadow generator and destroyed the planet (as well as the mandalorian fleet).

His body was completely destroyed but he held onto life through the force, feeding off it to stay alive. He's the same as the exile, except the exiles body wasn't destroyed and needed to cling onto life. But both the exile and nihilus can feed off the force (but nihilus needs to do it to stay alive).

Kreia lures him to Telos with the rumour of the Jedi academy (though she kills the Jedi if the exile doesn't to keep nihilus from draining them) with the trap of killing him, because there are no Jedi, there is a bunch of atris apprentices who can't feel the force, and nihilus will have used the last of his power to get to Telos (as you can see the ship is destroyed and only held together by the force) so he will ultimately die at Telos.

A few years prior kreia, nihilus and sion team up and take over the Sith academy at malachior and start training more apprentices. So kreia knows nihilus well and his nature, she tried to use him before the same way she tries to use the exile to cut off the force (or drown it out in silence). Unfortunately nihilus needs to keep devouring the force to stay alive, while the exile can use his powers of influence to drown the force across the entire universe using the tear in the force at malachior.
