Is Dex better than Strength for fighting? Does Strength add to damage? It did in Kotor 1 iirc
I know there's a feat I can take to give me finesse light saber,,,So is there any reason to take strength? Is it a 'Dump' stat?

I'm playing a Setinnel that might become a Guardian later.

Thanks!

I don't use strength at all. Once you have the Finesse Feat, dexterity controls chance to hit, chance to dodge, defense, and bonus damage. At character creation I leave strength at 8 and go 14 into everything else. Then level-up attribute points go to dexterity and either wisdom or charisma.

^ this is true, but i find DEX is less usefull in KOTOR 2 than in KOTOR 1.

when you get the light saber, you will deflect lots of blaster bolts automatically. you will also get bonuses for defense as you get more powerful while going down your jedi path. another bonus is you will get to use one more feat for other things if you don't take the finesse feat.

put the extra points that you would have put into dex into wisdom or constitution or something more useful.

and yes, strength adds damage

In KOTOR 2 STR is far better than DEX for a melee character for several reasons:

1) You can upgrade armour to have significant immunity to energy and physical damage, which when combined with energy resistance, force barrier and toughness level 2 you become virtually indestructable with no DEX at all. Use Jal Shay armours so you can still use force powers if you wish, but heavy armour is fine if you don't care about speed etc.

2) Using a single blade or a double blade gives you a +50% bonus to your STR modifier on all your main hand attacks, so if you can get it to a reasonably high number by the end game like 50+ you'll be nuking anything in one round even bosses. STR bonus is doubled on critical hits and tripled with the Shien form.... literally crits well over 200 each, potentially over a 1000 for a round with master speed and some luck.

But you know, roleplay. Do what you want, the game is easy enough with a bathrobe high DEX approach, but don't expect to see high numbers. Fights will last longer and you'll take more damage because the enemies can still hit on 20's no matter how good of a dodge you think you are.

Hmmm Interesting. People have opposite views. I think I'll go for a strength character because the first fight with Visas is kind of hard...Thanks!

Well, I'll start with 14's in my Stats, except for Dex. Bonus points will go into Intelligence until I get to 18,

STR is best for melee because it increases to hit, increases base damage, increases critical damage too. DEX is also viable but fights will take longer because lower damage. You'll see your toon deflect and evade lots of stuff though. DEX makes you less squishy and if you pump DEX your to hit chance can get as high as a STR build but every hit you land will do lower damage than if you'd gone STR. Endgame gear is sick nasty nice though, so just go with what you like I guess.

If you go melee fighter, STR is mandatory, otherwise it's useless. DEX is mandatory for ranged characters and good for others.

1. Finesse light saber does NOT work.

2. Finesse melee weapons works, and it works for blades and ligh stabres too.

Since you can get finesse melee at level 1, a dex build is viable right from level one and if you start with 14 dex you can hit thinks easy on PEragus with a vibroblade. For a male character, a dex build can have very high defense and still hit hard with the right gear and feaats.

It does work.

Gender doesn't affect combat capabilities. Girls kick arse no worse than boys.

^ I think that's in reference to a male character getting a high defense bonus from one of your companions later on.

Has the bug been fixed? The finesse mêlée feat worked on Sabres in the original version of the game. I checled the battle logs.

I think finesse lightsaber does work. I checked with a character that had the feat and stripped of gear had same STR and DEX and the to-hit stat was same.

You can gain this feat through conversation and a cutscene if you have the Miraluka and two regular length lightsabers and good influence with Kreia at a time while she's still offering her advice and teaching.

dex doesnt give you damage.
i have two physical saves, sith mara damage with buffs was around 100, watchman with buffs around 60(finished watchman 30 min ago). i doubt i will ever replay dex saber build

That was added in the TSLRCM.

Be sure to check the combat log and not just the character equip screen. It's possible TSLRCM fixed this problem.

I don't have a character with finesse lightsabre and not finesse melee to be able to check it.

Try out dex gunslinger build, it's hella awesome as long as you don't end up in close quarters with some marauder or storm beast.
