Kreia Quote Discussion
Spoilers for the late game story:

During the reunion in the Jedi Enclave, Kreia interrupts the Jedi masters' attempt at cutting you off from the force, and scolds them for their blindness. She first lists their experiences on their respective planet; Vrook to Dantooine's scarred surface, Kavar to the call of Dxun, and Zez-Kai-Ell to Nar Shaddaa in being so close to giving up the force. Afterwards, she speaks of another location, which I shall quote here:

"There is a place in the galaxy, where the dark side of the force runs strong. It corrupts all that walks on its surface, drowns them in the power of the dark side. It corrupts all life and it feeds on death. Revan knew the power of such places, and the power in making them. They can be used to break the will of others, of Jedi, promising them power, then turning them to the dark side. Did you never wonder how Revan turned so many of the Jedi, so much of the Republic so quickly? The Mandalorian Wars were a series of massacres that masked another war, a war of conversion; culminating in a final atrocity that no Jedi could walk away from; save one."

I wish to bring discussion on this due to the location being unnamed yet heavily described, and I wish to identify it and provide reasoning for my claim. I believe it to be Korriban, the ancient Sith homeworld you travel to in the latter half of the game. Some people believe it is referring to Malachor V, due to their similar descriptions, but I brought up the quote for a reason. The unnamed planet was studied by Revan for the purpose of converting Jedi to Sith. His ruthless tactics that costed countless deaths were for the purpose of corrupting Jedi first, defeating the Mandalorians second, ending in the final battle that created the mass shadows of Malachor V.

Revan did not study Malachor V to create Malachor V, as although it was a taboo world to the Mandalorians, it was still habitable with fertile soil. What was a graveyard during the war was Korriban, and remained so millennia prior to Revan's time. Its legacy housed thousands of years of infighting, a planet of war and death beneath a thin layer of sand. It is a testament to Revan's abilities to recreate such an atmosphere, not just on Malachor, but on other worlds like Dxun.

That's about all I have to say on this. The main reason as to why I started this was because the Wookiepedia page for Malachor V used Kreia's quote. It is possible that I could be wrong on this, and there is some information that has eluded me, but I wanted to create a discussion on this in memory of one of the greatest stories in Star Wars.

I believe Kreia is referring to a world in the Unknown regions, where Revan disappears to after Kotor. She could also be referring to Malachor V due to the existence of Trayus academy.

The world in the unknown regions that you speak of would have had to have been visited by Revan during the Mandalorian Wars, which is possible, but is an unknown variable in the story. The Trayus Academy did play a part in the creation of Malachor V as we know it, but I wouldn't call it corrupting; it is a place where force adepts can quickly become masters of the dark side, but it does not lure those that are not already seduced by the dark side of the force. It definitely does feed on death though, according to Darth Traya's description in the core.

She's talking about Malachor V.

When Revan found it, he changed after going down to it's surface and discovering the Trayus Academy and knowledge of the True Sith. That it was full of life and not barren means nothing. So was the cave on Dagobah. Great evil went on there in the past because it was a Sith world. Revan just amplified what was already there when he set off the MSG.

The way you put Revan's discovery of Malachor is probably the best counterpoint to my theory, I will admit that. Revan would have likely gone there prior to the battle, and what he found would only reinforce his decision. I do have some disagreements with your other claims though. Dagobah was not a world tainted by the dark side; the cave was the only known place that housed such corruption. Would you say that the Amazon rain-forest is a dark nexus because people were killed there?

As for the history of Malachor V, you are likely correct in the assumption that great evil occurred there, given the presence of the Trayus Academy. How much that history influenced the aura of the planet when Revan reached it is unknown, as descriptions of the planet at that time were vague, though the MSG definitely reignited the spirit of Malachor.

I said nothing of the planet itself. I said the cave on Dagobah (which was a DS nexus) was not devoid of life or barren, so we know that habitability doesn't play into whether a place is corrupted or not in Star Wars.

Revan did go down to the surface prior to the battle to learn why the Mandalorians considered it verbotten. It was in the ruins of the Trayus Academy that he learned of Korriban and the True Sith Empire in the Unknown Regions.

"It has been here for thousands of years. It is a place where Sith teachings run strong… It is the threshold of the borders of an ancient empire. Kreia says that it was a place of reflection for the ancient Sith… a gateway to their lands. It drew Lord Revan… and it calls to her as well. She said that the teachings here will lead one to the Sith… the true Sith… and all their shadowed worlds. This place led Revan to the graveyards of Korriban… and beyond." - Darth Sion on the Trayus Academy
