But I always take repair and go Sentinel, so the only skill I’m lacking is Demolitions (people take this, and it’s great but Repair gives you more components and has good stuff).
Either way the key to workbench success is how you upgrade your companions.
Toward the end of this video it explains how to upgrade your companions so you don’t have to worry about the problems you’re having.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the help! This just made upgrading a lot more fun.
You get so many items which are just complete crap and you don't want, and the economy is so broken that you always have more money than you need (unless you get lucky and have a bunch of super good and expensive items show up on Telos in which case you'll fall short there) which makes selling more or less pointless very early on, that you can afford to break down for components to make upgrades that you actually want.
Bao-Dur gets crazy skill points so you can have basically all his crafting skills maxed meaning you aren't even limited by your build in what you can and can't make because he can just make it all for you.
Bao-Dur's existence is purely to craft items in my playthroughs since I made him a Jedi in my first as well, he just wasn't very good because again he can't use any robes, is one of those companions where there are just better options and turning him into a Jedi causes him to get far less skills which is the whole appeal of him.
Yeah that too, it gives T3-M4 an actual purpose and reason to exist unlike K1 did.
It also messes up his gaining unarmed combat feats as the awarding of these to the jedi and tech classes do not stack afaik.
Bao-dur has a number of uses apart from the workbench in my games. On the surface of Telos his shield breaker attack is very useful against the mercs and he is also useful in getting through the shields in the military facility.
He has a part in unlocking the speeder on Nar Shaddaa and knows the code for the perimeter sensor on the Sith tomb mission on Dxun. He also has some dialogue with Tien Tubb (the repair shop next to the landing pad on Nar Shaddaa). I also use him in the academy sub level on Dantooine as I usually get my lightsaber there so with him I can construct it immediately.
But I rarely convert him to a jedi.
Wasn't aware of the other two though, however the perimeter sensor thing doesn't sound worth swapping out someone who's useful in combat.
Yes, that is the easiest way to access just about all the skills you might need for the workbench. Bao-dur isn't that bad in combat either. Get him a decent suit of medium armour and set him for unarmed combat and at the higher levels his bonuses allow him to not be a liability at least.
The trick at the workbench is to get a character to repair skill 20. Then, provided you are using the restored content mod, breakdown efficiency is 100%. Sell a few high value items for cash and break down the rest. That will eventually give you enough components to craft and install the maximum possible upgrades to the main character and all companions gear.
To keep things simple I ignore almost all upgrades that have a -ve effect on anything. That reduces the number to consider significantly. So for melee weapons just edge upgrades, agrinium grips and energy cells. Forget anything else. Armour gets upgrades that increase armour factor above all. Then a strength, regeneration or energy resistance underlay.
Just keep it simple.
