Should i wait to level up companions untill the become jedi class? similar as in KoTor so the have more points to spent in that skill tree, or did the adress this in KoTor 2 with some sort of respec on gaining the jedi skills

Well, this game has a far more generous level cap than KotOR 1 (50 instead of 20). Unless you're turning them Jedi fairly late, then it shouldn't be much of an issue. Go as your gut tells you here.

You also need to be aware that unless you "cheat" by means of a save editor or exploits it is not possible to get much beyond about lvl 34.

There is no one rule about when to turn your companions into jedi. I have my own ideas, which I set out in the guide referencedin a post above, but it varies for each one. There is an advantage in holding off levelling Handmaiden for example in that she starts at lvl 6 but if you wait until she is a jedi (for which you need to be lvl 18) then she takes all her levelups as a guardan rather than a soldier. The big difference between the two is that a guardian gets to choose force powers. In contrast, it is more sensible to level Mira up as a scout to at least 21. That way she can be set up as an awesome ranged fighter, which is much more useful than as a mediocre jedi.

While there is no rule, generally companions are more powerful when they are jedi. And you can make a jedi ranged fighter. Actually, a jedi would be hella more durable and kicka$$er-y than usual ranged fighter. Nothing like a trio of Force-wielding gunslingers mowing down everything before it can even try to reach them
