[SPOILER] Riot in Onderon
In Onderon I ran into Ponlar who was trying to gather people and kill Queen Talia. I tried to persuade him but it failed. (I sided with Queen Talia when two folks were arguing about which side was better). Naturally, he gathered the crowd and rioted. I decided to help the guards to kill the riotists, and succeeded killing them. But, I wonder, was there no other way? Couldn't have I persuade or force persuade him?
My Persuade Skill is 28. Does it have to be higher to be able to persuade him?

Well, first thing is that Persuade doesn't work the same way as other skills. The rank relative to your level as well as the situation determines your chance of success.

As far as whether you could have persuaded him with a higher skill rank, I'm not really sure that it's possible. At the very least, I've never been able to avoid ending up with the riot in more-playthroughs-than-I-care-to-count of playing.

Well, I know that but I'm a Light Side player so this would not suit my way of playing. Thanks, however.

Only Force Persuasion works since he's very set in his ways.

Really? I wasn't aware that there was a force persuade option with Ponlar..

You need Dominate Mind judging by what Hassat Hunter said. My character has just the first Force Persuade, and though it gives me the Force Persuade option, it always fails. Going by what Hassat said it seems you need Dominate Mind to make it work.

As for your normal Persuasion; OP's Persuasion was 28. Mine's 30, and mine fails. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Ponlar can NOT be normal Persuaded at all, and it's ONLY Force Persuasion IF you have Dominate Mind.

The first force persuade will fail, but the second try will succeed.
