Best rpg of all time?
I've been playing it for like 5 hours and already i've got that tingling feeling, you know what i mean. And i dont even like star wars like that.

I love these classic style rpg's, rough around the edges but packed with jank goodness. I havent played a good rpg like this in a long time, and i play every new rpg as it comes out. They all leave me feeling empty and i usually have to skip the dialogue because its usually misery... And like i said, im not even a star wars fan in the least bit, i dig it. I wish there was a star trek game in this vein.

It's among the best RPGs ever made which should come as no surprise considering the lead designer's pedigree with Planescape Torment. You'll be hard pressed to find a game that can match it in terms of dialogue or philosophy.

the main issue with this game is they rushed it out so the ending falls apart.

the restoration project helps a good deal with that, but its still ...theres only so much you can do to fix something with cobbled together unfinished pieces.

KOTOR 1 WAS finished.

KOTOR 2 is pretty good, until it reaches the point where they were forced to get it out the door.

I agree. It's one of the best character studies in video gaming and rewards the attentive.

I haven't played many RPGs but this is my favorite one.

Best RPG? KotoR 2 isn't even the best KotoR.

it's a great game you can definitely still get into if you look beyond the bad voice acting, the 2004 cutting edge "meh" graphics and the interface taken from a nightmare I once had about X-Box players flying X wings into the World Centers, but the Towers were computer cases. You see, it was a stressfull time after 9/11 and the dawn of cross-platform was in full swing.

I have always had a love/hate relation with the turn based fighting system. At the endgame it's pretty cool I guess, but before that you can pretty much play most fights in real time and the system doesn't really show you when a turn is over. Sometimes I wait a crazy long time for an attack to take place. Needs a round-timer somewhere.

And the quests are nothing to go crazy about either in KotoR 2. The prologue is some kind of torture by story. The tutorial purpose of it is still alright. It makes you solve puzzles straight away. Of course it starts off easy, but it constantly demands spacial coordination from the player. And honestly with the small levels that's not too hard.

So it's a nice casual play with good progression, has some replay value for good and bad career and also combat fixation or jedi build. The main story also gets going after a while.

It's still not as good as KotoR1 or RPGs like Dragon Age: Origins and I guess Mass Effect has technically had better games than KotoR 2, but I'm not a big Mass Effects fan. But I will say that Jade Empire is better than KotoR 2, because I'm a fan of Jade Empire.

And speaking of party RPG there are tons of cool party RPG that aren't played fom thrid person and obviously some first person ones too. I mean Baldur's Gate, the first Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, The Dark Eye Nordland Saga Trilogy, Sacred, Fallout, Elder Scrolls...

Opening up the list of best RPGs ever is a can of worms, but KotoR 2 certainly doesn't make it to the #1 spot.

The German PC Gaming magazine Gamestar has listed their top 100 RPGs just this month as their main story. KotoR made it to #2 behind The Witcher 3 which they crowned best RPG ever. KotoR 2 is at spot 26 of that list, because it was rushed.

The completion project helps with some of it, but it also makes the game longer.

I still enjoy the game and it works well on Win7 on HD, which helps with the enojyment.

Then you're definitely going to enjoy Elex.

Naw i hated elex. Well hates a strong word, i loved the world but im sick and tired of Piranahbytes refusing to address the combat in their games, i hate it so much. I love the world, i want to love elex, its really hard to tho. One day il revisit it but i hate PB combat with a passion, its hard to get over it. PB needs a new team to design their rpg systems, combat, and balance in the game. Elex sends you on starter quests that are not possible to beat, atleast for me.

I'm 36 years old. Be careful with the words "of all time." Because nothing will beat Betrayal at Krondor. Ever.

Majority of you weren't even born yet.

KOTOR 2 is probably my second favorite RPG of all time (first being Fallout NV), and while I have more hours in the original KOTOR on Steam, I consider KOTOR 2 with the restored content mod to be objectively better than the former. Everything about it is just more mature. The characters, the setting and themes.

It's also probably the darkest Star Wars game I've ever played. Republic Commando is dark, but dark in the sense of a tiny blood and being a gritty soldier. That's it. KOTOR 2 has this constant ambiance and setting where things really feel like they are on the verge of collapse, especially in comparison to the first KOTOR which was mostly all smiles and rainbows. The second game is practically one giant deconstruction of both Star Wars and the first KOTOR. Even on peaceful planets like Telos there is a feeling of despair. Walking along a space station that is plagued with both crime and cutthroat corporatism with the small planetary security force stuck in the middle. All a result of the Jedi Civil War.

Then you have the characters who are far more mature and complex than the first KOTOR. People like to talk ♥♥♥♥ about Bao-Dur, but he is insanely accurate to what someone with PTSD would behave like. In my own life, I've cared for people with PTSD and have a loved one who suffers from it, and have seen the same behaviors mirrored in Bao-Dur, mirrored in them as well. Then you have characters like G0-T0 and Kreia who are deconstructions of Star Wars. Visa Marr who is basically a victim of abuse and lives her life in horror of the abomination that is Darth Nihilus (itself being a manifestation of pure dark side energy from the resulting Mandalorian Wars).

I love KOTOR 2, and I doubt we will ever see anything similar with Disney. The Last Jedi was an attempt at a deconstruction of Star Wars, but it went about it the wrong way by changing the existing character traits of established characters (namely Luke).

I'm always eager to try great classics but I don't think the condescending tone is justifiable

Wasn't being condescending. You read a tone that wasn't there. I said to be careful of certain words because there's a context much larger than many here are considering. I'm sorry if you took offense but that was because you read an offense where there was none. I was making a clear point, and that's all I was doing.
