No. All your recruits are immortal and rise to the rank of Assassin at level 11. They can be injured on missions or in combat if you call them in for assistance and you will have to wait for them to recover before sending them back out.
The thing I didn't like about the recruit system in AC:3 is that you can't customize your recruits. You can't change their clothes or weapons or anything. The only real thing that changes about them is they get tougher at combat, have more life, and have more killing techniques. Other than that, the recruit system is terrible.
