Why was the hookblade lost between Revelations and III?
Why did the assassins forget how useful they were in climbing and combat?

Is this explained somewhere and I just missed it?

maybe becuz the hookblade was not an assassins weapon, it was created by people in the brotherhood, the hiddenblade is an assassins weapon cuz thats the main thing so it'll pass down in decades and the hookblade isnt. Its like adding mayo to hotdogs were 95% of the people wont. Hope u understand :D

I think in one of the Dev Diarys they say that the Hook Blade was just for Constantinople. And that they didnt want to put it in AC3

Except Ezio thought it was so useful that he equiped all the assassins he trained from that point on with hookblades. Obviously they were passed down as well and became part of the assassin's toolkit.

conner can still slide down ropes...im pretty sure i used the axe to slide down a rope in boston at one point.

Edit: yes Peter but while ezio trained his fair share of assassins he could not train every assassin on the planet.

the colonial assassins probably had their own way of doing things, like the chinese assassins had the rope dart and you dont see every other assassin except Connor using it

mr. faulkner is also an assassin btw so achilles isnt the only assassin in the colonies before connor came along

besides they put a lot of things in the game that in AC:R you would need a hookblade to efficiently do but in AC:3 can be done easily, like running and bypassing people, connor can swing around them easily and shove them out of his way with no deviation from his path, or like in AC:R where Ezio uses the hookblade to jump farther and latch onto surfaces out of normal reach, all the buildings in AC:3 are so closely packed together theres no need for an implement to help you, and theres a lot more accesible handholds in the enviroment so Connor has almost no need to jump-climb like Ezio did

The hook blade sucked anyways

Wasn't the Hookblade introduced because Ezio was getting older and needed a boost?

The hookblade was a weapon made and used by the Turkish assassin branch.
It's not a worldwide thing.
