First one is lumber from mill after you get it and sending it on a convoy. The second time is after you get your first Artisan crafter. In both cases it will tell you what it wants you to do, and do not skip or add any steps to stay on track.
Also be aware it wants you to use the arrow keys to navigate, and enter ect. I found mouse clicking messed me up more than helped when I realized this.
The second time to give a example it will want you to go to craft menu, do this by hitting -> RArrow key. Then it wants you to assign the 1 crafter you have to one of the first slot groups from left. Then in the second group it wants you to set wood to the material section, just once, and don't click/try to add anything else, or change what your crafting.
Once each is assigned by hitting enter at each, then it will tell you to hit spacebar. Just read, and follow the text directions as if the game were talking to you like a 4 yr old lol. Do each step just as it says and you will get thru it. It's only like that at first to "show you" how to use the ledger. And it works great once you get it. Just use your keyboard, and read carefully, and follow the directions like you were a child 1 step after the other lol.
The game is honestly a great port to PC with only a few areas like this that just weren't done well/or right. On one Homestead mission you will have to break up a fight between the 2 lumber jacks. That is really hard to get at first; how to do it. It was meant to be done with two thumb/analogsticks.
So on PC you have to use WASD for the left side of screen, and ^<v> Arrowkeys for the right side. And it's really confuseing and frustrating at first. Here is what wisdom I can give you on getting past it. 1- Realize you will fail a few times, it's ok, and as you fail pay attention and you will strat to pick up on whats going on a bit better than I can type out. 2- If you can use a Xbox360/PS3 controller it may be worth it just for this one mission lol. 3- If the method I am about to describe fails you, or you just say to H311 with it !, then you can always recruit someone to do the left side while you do the right or vice versa.
What your trying to do in this mission to break up the fight between lumber jacks is push each one back from the other, one hand pushing the 1st, the other hand pushing the 2nd. Now on each side you will notice a button lights up with a <or>, they each do this on their own time and not at the same as each other mostly.
In essence you have 1st guy L side, and 2nd guy R side and they are yelling and puffing chests and stepping into each other like a silly highschool fight, and your hitting buttons to keep them from each others throats. So when one lurchs forward you have to apply Newton's law, and push him back, then the other guys will move forward and you have to push him back. Ect. ect. ect. I find if I hold W and ^Arrow key solid the whole time, and just tap AD or < >Arrow keys as needed I win more than not.
The Idea is to watch the on screen keys for when to push AD/< >, there will be a second bar behind these on screen buttons, yellow when in middle of bar, red when near center of bar< ones about to hit the other), and green when on outside edge of bar. Green is what you want, but easier said or typed than done lol.
Each time you get both bars green and on outside edge you will reset and start again, same if one bar goes red and hits center<but you get to see one guy hit the other lol), and after getting green a few times ( I think 3 not sure tho) you will be all done, Horray!!!
Also I find it better to turn off the sound when doing this, they repeat a lot, and it can throw you off; thinking you need to push when you don't, as it doesn't sync with the rest of whats going on at all. Or just use a dual analog controller / get a friend to help lol. Anyways hopes this helps, GG & GL !
thanks for an extensive description about how these things function. At this point I don't understand most of it because I haven't seen any mention of these things in the game (just an example: Artisan Crafter, does that mean I'm supposed to make Connor an Artisan Crafter or do I have to find one among the inhabitants of the homestead?).
I definitely get the feeling that there's a WHOLE lot of things I still have to do in order to get to a point where I can use the system and earn some money, and I'll continue playing and see if I can get to that point.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this complex part of the game, I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates it.
I'm going to subscribe to this discussion thread so I can look your post up once I get to where I can put your instructions to use.
Have fun, buddy....And good luck to everybody who are experiencing trouble with this.
Tried to be as spoiler free as I could lol. Sorry.
I will bring your sticky thread request to our team accordingly. In the meantime, hope you enjoy your game-time and if you do run into any difficulties or have any queries, feel free to reach out at any time!
