For everyone unable to launch the game
Ever since Ubisoft updated Uplay, I've been completely unable to start AC3 (or any other game that uses Uplay). After several hours of searching online, and reinstalling Uplay, and verifying the game cache, I finally managed to get it working.

Here's what I did:

1) I verifed the game cache of AC3. Not sure if this is neccesary, but try it anyway.
2) I uninstalled Uplay through Add and Remove Programs.
3) I went to Steam\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed 3\Support\GameLauncher and installed Uplay with the installer there.
4) I started Uplay on its own using the shortcut on my desktop (NOT through Steam). I let it update to the newest version. After updating, it closes, and won't open/crashes.
5) I rebooted my computer. After rebooting, I opened Uplay again, and it finally opened. It updated a couple more times, and after updating, I was able to launch AC3.

I know it seems dumb, but seriously, try restarting your computers. I'm pretty technical and tried every single advanced trick in the book to get it working, when all I needed to do was reboot. Hopefully this works for you all!

it's good policy to reboot your machine after any software install/uninstall, reboots clear all registry keys from memory and they are refreshed and restored when machine is booted, do this along with cache clearing/HDD clean up and a disk defragmentation once a week for any machine heavily used+^_^+
It didnt work for me, but my problem may be different to the one your trying to fix. I launch it, it performs First Time Setup, (It does so evertime I try to launch it) then I appear in game for a couple seconds, then I return to "Online" nothing ever opens and nothing apears in Windows Task manager either. ):

That's exactly what was happening to me, actually. Hmm. I might just be lucky, then. Oh, one thing you should do is make sure uPlay is installed on the same hard drive as your games. This only applies if you have multiple drives, of course.
Ah, that may be the problem. I have all my games on an External hardrive and Uplay on my C drive.

Yeah, mine are on a seperate internal drive. Just uninstall uPlay (won't affect your games if you bought them through Steam), and reinstall it on your other drive. Hopefully that fixes it.
After installing it, I put my mouse over the desktop shortcut and it says C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher... Also, do i have to lauch AC3 through Uplay or steam?

You're not installing it in the right location then. Did you change the install location at the beginning to your external drive?

I started it through Uplay first, just to see if it worked, but I can start it through Steam fine now too (it actually launches Steam for you if you do it through Uplay).
I had the launcher installed on C and Steam and games on E, every time I tried to start the game it would just go to the closing report witout starting the game.
After uninstalling the Ubisoft launcher and installing it to my E drive, it says it can't find the launcher.
Is there a way to change the search path so it doesn't look for it in the default C drive directory?
Edit: Now it's doing the straight-to-post-game thing in the E drive installation aswell, so I got it to work in the right hdd atleast. Still can't start the game though.

What exactly is it doing, how far do you get after you launch the game?

It starts up Ubisoft launcher (or Steam if I start trough the Ubisoft launcher) and after syncing the save files (even though I don't have any yet) it goes straight to the post-game screen that usually comes up when you exit the game.
"Thank you for playing Assassin's Creed 3", playtime 0 hours 0 minutes.
It doesn't actually start the game, though my game log registeres it as having started the game doesn't launch.
I don't have any problems starting the game, but i can't get past the first mission because it gets stuck on the loading screen forver after i do the mission.
@Johnny & Soulstone
Try and reverify the games integrity, Go to your steam library, right click on the game choose properties. Then go to the local files tab and choose verify the integrity of the games cache.
what do you mean by rebooting the pc? how do i do that? hehehehe

Restart your computer. Start button, clcik on the shut down or if your going to retry the game then just mouse over the little arrow next to shut down and then choose restart. Either way will accomplish the same thing. Might be a good idea to actually do a complete shut down if you've never done one before as that will do a nice clean boot and may very well speed up your computer a bit.
