AC 2 still has the best parkour.
I have played all the AC games released thus far except for the handheld ones, and i must say the parkour was excellent in AC2, it was sticky, responsive, tactile and immediate, there was a sense of danger but Ezio had the agility to overcome it. It was smooth but still presented itself in a challenging mini game, it gave me a thrill to crawl over enormous building and spires.

Assassins creed Brotherhood and Revelations were just as good but lacked the landscape of Florence and Venice. The worst of all are AC3 and AC4. Now im not trying to sound like a hater, they made monumental improvements to the free running mechanics and i think it made it worse. Simply put there is no challenge left in free running anymore, i feel like both Connor and Edward run on auto pilot, they do things on their own and i don't feel like im in control anymore, they have simplified it to the point where its not longer challenging anymore, the AI is doing all the work and we are just holding the controller.

I am really excited for AC5, it has the perfect setting of Paris to unleash parkour skills, i just hope they go back to the old free running mechanics and stay away from the AI controlled simpleton stuff.

Yes, agree, agree, yes, and agree. Now, which one had you climbing the inside of that huge dome? The one where you had to find the right path up the inside of the dome to get to the hole in the dome's center... that was my favorite climbing expedition.

You're right about Brotherhood and Relations: the potential was there, and it almost compared...but there was just something missing... that dangerous feel that you could still fall and you had some pretty spectacular buildings to clamber around on. Man, I miss that feeling. Running through the trees and jumping across rivers and up deadfall trees is okay, with the occasional colonial building or a tall church steeple or two in AC3, but it just lacks that magic of AC2 that made them special.

I agree with you, AC2 was the best game of the series. Amazing and original storyline. Brotherhood was also very good ( I played these on ps3).
