Assassin's Creed® III
AC3 Performance vs AC4 Black Flag
I have a copy of AC4 Black Flag through Uplay wich runs fairly well for me.
Frames are generally in the 30's and 40's and smooth. Most settings are on high.

How does AC3 compare in performance? Is it the same? Worse? A little better?

I also have a copy of AC Liberation which runs better than Black Flag, as I understand it's a slightly older game and that's the reason why.

I have an older PC. A 7 year old Dell Workstation with [2] Xeon Processors @ 2.66Ghz.
I just dropped in an Nvidia GTX 660 and 8 GB of ram.

So I am curious about the performance, I see loads of threads complaining about AC3's performance but no comparisions.

I have all of them except Liberation. Black Flag is better optimized (though not much), AC3 runs like crap compared to the rest of the series for some reason. How well can you run Black Flag? Liberation is a upscaled Vita game so its requirements are less.

i ttoo want to know this, my pc is connected to my tv so i run acIII at 1080p shadows normal, textures high and enviroment on high as it chugs on very high. I think it looks great and runs far better than the xbox version. Its a gtx 550TI card i3 2100 and 8gb ram. I was thinking of holding off and gwtting a ps4 with it as i am unsure how it will run compared to that version.

Black Flag runs well. Mostly high settings and frames are smooth and in 30 to 40's. Peaks in the 50's.
You need a good CPU to max out your GPU.

To get the most out of you RIG you need to do the following:

1) Open Task Manager
2) Set High Performance from Control Panel
3) Start the game
4) ALT-TAB
5) Set Low Priority for the game
6) Set affinity 2 cores, regardless of CPU, DON'T SKIP this step
7) ALT-TAB back into game then alt-tab back to task manager
8) Set affinity back to all available cores
9) Enjoy game to the maximum extent of your RIG. Your CPU should now allow the GPU the maximum flexibility.

Personally, my game never dips under 45 (I limited my game to 45 fps from MSI Afterburner anyway) on a 560 Ti overclocked, on an FX 6300 @4.5 GHz.

I run it maxed, 1080p, AA set to 2nd option out of three.

PS: My game is constant 45 everywhere in the game, including Boston. There are very very very RARE situations where it goes down to 40, but it's never more than 1 second, so I consider my framerate a constant 45, with my GPU usage going between 85 to 94%.
That was a general optimization tip for any game really, to unpark cores and to utilize CPUs as best as possible.

With a 560 Ti overclocked to 980 MHz and said CPU, I can run AC3 with said settings at 45-60.

I recently tried AC IV, on my same setup. 1080p, max settings, AA set to CMAA, Physx off, I get 28-32 so it's perfectly playable.

If you get 40 fps in AC IV you'll get 60 in AC III, no worries.
