Sequence 3 -- the damn powder carts again
Well, everyone who has played the mission knows what I'm talking about. Thing is, I can easily shoot the first two carts with no problems at all, Haythem successfully reloads, I advance the third cart, and -- nothing. He refuses to shoot the damn cart regardless of what I do. Everything I can find on the internet refers to the console versions (PS and XBOX). Switching to different tools like the smoke bomb doesn't help either. Interestingly, I can shoot the lone soldier before he is assassinated by one of my allies, yet I cannot shoot the cart, neither from afar nor from close range, manually aiming doesn't help, reloading the checkpoint doesn't help, reloading the sequence doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix this? Should I return with a different gun at a later point, just replaying the sequence? I've completed everything 100% so far with no difficulty whatsoever up to this point, but the frustration of the game's attitude to ♥♥♥♥ things up randomly really drives me away. >:-(

All right, I found out what causes the issue, though not why (it doesn't make sense, that is to say). If at any point during the chase you spur your horse, this will cause Haythem to be unable to shoot the third cart. Not spurring the horse at all during the chase, on the other hand, results in his ability to shoot it reliably -- for whatever unbeknownst reason.

It is the same for the console versions. Presumably this is because he is trying to hold onto the reins/guide the horse at a higher pace, so he is unable to reload and spur at the same time. The same holds true for Connor as well. I've also noticed that if I spur, I cannot use the riding assassination move. The good news is that the spur effect wears off after a few moments so you do not have to avoid spurring completely. It's just a matter of timing.

That may actually be true. Thing is, I had no problem with reloading my guns, I simply couldn't shoot the last powder cart even with a fully reloaded gun if I spurred my worse at any given point during the entire sequence. At least for me, it only worked once I completely stopped spurring my horse.
One should think that this is a bug (or whatever) it would be possible to sort out, but oh well, Ubisoft. *lol*

I guess that Ubisoft thinks that "old games are old". Meaning they aren't worth investing the time/money to stomp bugs. Yeah, Ubisoft can be insane sometimes.

That is the most important reason for which I have kept skipping their games for the better of five years now. Their games are a mess at release, and they still remain so, though to a lesser extent, when they decide it is time to move on to the next game.
This particular game could also have been far better if it were not for the nuisance that are many of the optional objectives. While I do like challenges, I do not like challenges that I have to repeat a dozen times because they cannot be completed owing to a bug. I really like the setting of this game, but the bugs kill the fun for me.

I have always been a big fan of the Assassin's Creed games. I did have all of them from the very 1st one to AC3 for my XBox. However, strangely enough, I got the "Circle of Death" on both consoles while playing Brotherhood and then AC3 on the second. I have just recently finished AC3, and; found myself unsatisfied. I mean, where does Connor go from here? I did try to to get the pivots, but; the server always seems to be offline. Let's face it, it's kinda hard to top AC2, ACB, and ACR.

Anyway, I was thinking of moving on to Blackflag and then maybe Syndicate, but; only if the overall content has improved from AC3.

Any thoughts?

Well, Blackflag is definitely an amazing game if you can handle the fact that the major focus is on Edward Kenway's life and combat at sea, even though the Assassins and their creed as well as the Templers do play a role. These parts are really well done while I felt that the combat at land is a bit too easy considering that you can block and counter almost any attack except for ranged attacks and those from brutes. Still I was able to freely murder guards in mostly any region and city without even getting close to death. The combat at sea is, as I said, amazing, especially because you do not start out all powerful but need to upgrade your ship as you progress through the game.
Edward is also easily the most interesting protagonist in the series besides Ezio, and you do get attached to several NPCs. So, from my side, it is a clear thumbs up.

As concerns Syndicate, I have not played it and thus cannot tell you anything about it.

Thanks DBD, I have heard many good reviews about Blackflag. The one thing I did like about AC3 was the sea battles. Other than that, Connor seemed "Dry". To hear that Edward actually has a personality makes Blackflag a no brainer.

You're welcome -- and: indeed!
