I doubt they needed money, they're trying to generate interest in the franchise before Doom 4 is announced. This generation of consoles hasn't seen a major Doom release, and considering this is the gen that made gaming mainstream, that's a huge market that doesn't know.

Not sure what you think bringing Romero back will do. id is over the hill, nothing's going to change that.
