Feeling sick?
This may seem strange but everytime I play Doom 3 I feel like I need to be sick?! kind of like motion sickness, it was same when Doom 3 first came out back in 2003 or 2004 cant remember. Its the only GAME to ever make me feel like this and I'm wondering if this has effected anyone else? I was told to max my FOV but I still feel the same.
Strange question I know, I'm just curious.

Annoying as I have never been able to finish it and thought maybe this new version would be different...I was wrong! lol
:)

Definitely sounds like motion sickness. Other than increasing the FoV, I'm not sure what else you can do to minimise it's effects. Try sitting further from the screen, using a gamepad etc, might help, but sometimes there's just nothing to be done to stop it. The only time I have ever had this problem was when playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. The head bobbing was just too much, and after about 20 minutes of playing, I'd start to feel quite sick. Never could get it to stop.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the headbobbing, I think thats whats causing it, I did however turn of motion blur and that has helped a little, it just takes longer until I start feeling sick! haha

I'm getting the same experience. I'm not sure what the hell is causing it as I have never experienced this in other FPS games or other ID games. I increased my FOV to 100 and it's helped a bit. I disabled motion blur too it and it had somewhat of an effect and reduced mouse sensitivity.

I'm not sure if it's motion sickness but it's definitely a weird feeling.

Strange indeed. I got this back in the days when I played Half Life: Opposing Force and Quake. Making fast turns etc. But never in Doom 3. I feel for ya man.

I suffer from vertigo in my daily living and took me months before I could start playing a game again once it first hit me.

Besides what was mentioned above....
1. Increase the FOV
2. Decrease (or turn off) motion blur
3. Decrease (or turn off) head bob
4. Sit further back from the monitor

I also recommend trying any of these...
1. Play with the lights on
2. Turn off some of the effects in the game
3. Turn down the volume while playing - you will be less excited and more relaxed
4. Take the game at a slower pace. Don't run everywhere, don't be in a hurry to do anything if there are no time limits in the game.
5. Take more breaks from playing - if you normally play for 20 mins, play for 10 mins and take a 10 min break
6. Take your eyes off the screen every once in a while and look at something close and then something far away for a few mins each
7. Take some Dramamine while you play. Your doctor can also prescribe Meclizine.
8. Try other game types and see if they bother you - 3rd person games generally bother me way more than 1st person shooters, for example (maybe it will be the opposite for you).
9. Look away from intense action scenes and/or cut scenes when possible - you are not obligated to watch anything you don't absolutely have to.
10. Play on a smaller monitor
11. If all else fails and you feel it's still too much, stop playing completely for awhile and do something else - maybe even for the rest of the day. Don't dwell on the fact that it bothers you, or else you will build up a phobia about it and make it worse when you go back to try it later - trust me.

Good luck.

Increase your knowledge, sir.

It could be FoV related, view-bob related, related to the environment in which the game is being played, gamma or contrast related, motion blur related, or the onset of some other health issue, amongst other things.

Motion Sickness with games has always been something I've dealt with. FoV is definietly the biggest culprit, usually can minimize the sick feeling anything over 90.

I used to get insanely motion sick playing Wolfenstein 3d back in the day , so it's definietly not just modern games. Any time you have to fool your brain into thinking its moving when you're sitting still and the have no periphreal vision, it doesn't like it.

I had the same problem, but apparenly only with Doom 3 and Half Life 2...
I played many other fps and i wont get any problem (on pc, ps3, ps4) but when i play Doom 3 or Half Life 2 i get this motion sickness right after just few mins of gameplay O_o

This has been a known side effect for quite a while, and it can sometimes be indicative of an inner ear or a vision problem. Some people are effected by it and a lot aren't, same as motion sickness.

Try Brutal Doom, that game was so intense I puked about half way into Stage 2. The carnage was nice but that game made me puke, Kickin ass kickin ass, f-ck ya this is freaking intense. HRRRRRRRGGH!!! HRRRRRRRRRGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost made a godamn mess..

Quake 3 on Dreamcast also made me nausiated after playing for about a half hour, kept going though.

Sorry for necroing, but I just had to google after I've been feeling extremely nauseaous from playing Doom 3 for the second time. Turns out it is acrually the game causing it.
I increased FOV and it helped but since the achievements seem to get disabled from various bugs like when adjusting FOV I can't do that anymore :D

I've had the same problem with most high-speed first-person or third-person games, all the way back to when I first played the first Doom port for the SNES.

One of the most important factors (for me) is the distance between myself and the screen I'm playing on.

When I'm playing several feet away from the big flat-screen I'm perfectly fine playing something like DOOM, Lords of the Fallen, or Dark Souls, but if I'm playing on my laptop the motion sickness can get pretty severe.

Adding some distance between yourself and the screen can make a world of difference.

Also, another odd thing, if you wear glasses or contact lenses, if your script is out of date that could also impact your experience. It's an odd thing, but it's true.
