reason why mods are not coming in (this is a possible reason why there are no mods for this game)
the game had gone open source which means modders can mod the game to their hearts content but does that mean that they will really do it? maybe not. the modding community that was apart of doom 3 vanilla was had some good stuff but all of that good stuff is now essentialy become an exclussive to the vanilla version because none of the modders really want to go back and reformat 6 months-1 years worth of work. having to go through each line of code and reformat all the assets in the mods would seem very time consuming and a big let down; also there are other games coming out anyway that modders might want to get their hands on like wolfenstein: the new order and some recent releases like RAGE that have modding support out of the box. the game can be modded but thats assuming someone is willing to come back and reformat/relearn the code for the moddified ID TECH 4.

To be exact...both versions of Doom 3 are on steam. The original you can still mod, but the reason they took away mods for BFG was for 2 reasons. 1) They also removed the auto-console so that they could enable steam achievements instead. 2) Some of the mods gave an unfair advantage to players online in death matches, and so on...so they pretty much decided not to add them in the sense of Valve's anti-cheat thing.

The engine is in nooooooooooo way the IDTech 4 the actual engine is a mod of the IDTech 5 which is why the graphics look so much better. However, they downgraded the 5th engine and added new texture and lighting modifications to it. So, the engine is offically called the IDTECH4.5! Which is only used in Doom 3 BFG edition seeing as the original Doom 3 Engine is the IDTECH 4! Wolfenstein: The New Order is using a heavily modded IDTECH5 to increase the graphical texture and lighting styles you see in rage to create a darker realm. Doom 4/New Doom from what I heard is the first game that will be running the last creation by John Carmack at ID from what I've heard hence the IDTECH6 which will be a GPU punishing engine! Anyways I know how to re-code engines like this, but I don't wanna mod that much of an engine created by my idol...that's pure blasphemy!
Oh, and you can re-add the conolse via a soft-mod manually.

the graphics dont seem all that great to me. the graphics mods for doom 3 vanilla made it look much better and a little bit beyond ID TECH 5. also this game did go open source which means modders can mod it but noone wants to because the moddified ID TECH 4 (or downgraded ID TECH 5 whatever you want to call it) means tons of reformating and and reprogramming and stuff. also doesnt COD Ghosts run on the same engine Doom 3 bfg runs on (ID TECH 4.5)

No, CODG uses IW Engine and Havok. Only Doom 3 BFG uses that. Also, that's because they used the original AI. All they did was remaster the levels to a point to look just after Quake 4. Pretty much you'd need to run the code through visual studio, and either change/hack or add a modification system. Or copy and paste the old one in, but then you'd need to add it to the menu...as the menus of the games are a tad different.

if you happen to own the console version of the game or bought the disc version for pc you will see on every call of duty disc that it says "powered by technologies barrowed by ID software".

That doesn't mean the engine though. ID invented a lot of technology via John Carmack..he changed programming like 20+ years ago on the matter...and made platforming a possibility.

well i have heard and even several times in interveiws from infintiward i heard that they said they were useing the quake 3 arena engine and even the doom 3 engine. there are several times they have mentioned this and some peopel managed to poke that stuff out of the devs and make them say it by accident. i think vanderhaar even accidently said it once. if im wrong than im wrong but myabe they are useing programing form id but i assumed after seeing the game is arena based the game would have an engine that would have made arena based games. i could be wrong but many people say that they are always useing the doom 3 engine. they might have named it I.W. because it is heavly modified so they named it their own.

Only Infinity Ward used it on the original call of duty and call of duty classic. The Quake 3 engine which a lot of people used back then. They have their own IW engine after that. id Tech 4, popularly known as the Doom 3 engine came after that. The quake 3 engine is the IDTECH3 not the 4th.

The original engine IW used was the Quake 3 engine, and over the years they've changed and expanded it to what they use today. Technically, it's the same engine, in that they haven't scrapped it and started from scratch, but I can't imagine there's very much left in the way of Carmack's code in there, other than a few lines of very deep-down stuff that doesn't need changing, hence the reason they credit id Software.

Wonder if they still pay a licence fee.

That would explain the graphics hardly changing.
