How to Play Installed Doom 3: BFG Edition Versions of Doom 1 and 2 Only
EDIT: OP altered to reflect I've already fixed my problem. OP was:

"^Subject.

Because I've finished all Doom 3 games and would just like to play Doom 1 and 2 now. The Doom 3 collection is gobbling up several gigs of my HDD and I'm short on space.

Thanks for any helpful replies."

This will also fix the problem of people trying to separately install Doom 1 and Doom 2 in the Doom 3: BFG Edition bundle as the video is equivalent to you individually installing Doom 1 and Doom 2 (though in a roundabout manner; you've to download install the entire Doom 3: BFG Edition first).

DOOM.wad and DOOM2.wad are sitting in this directory. Copy them out, and load them in some other engine like ZDoom, or whatever people are using these days.

Thanks! I arleady figured this out with the help of Steam user Greenhillmaniac (thanks man!) and made a video out of it:

While this isnt possible directly, there are programs called source ports that will run the original games. Before you uninstall,

1. find the folder your wads are in, the path above is the default one. Copy the doom.wad and doom2.wad to a new folder (Default file path from Brandex's post is a good place to look)

2. Go to google and search for Gzdoom or Zdoom. Download either of these (Gzdoom uses opengl while zdoom doesn't)

3. Move the Gzdoom or Zdoom files to the folder you copied the two .wad files to

4. Click the gzdoom or zdoom icon, you should get a menu asking 'which wad you wish to use' click the one you want to play and ta da!

I strongly recommend this method, since it makes the games look much prettier and you can even customize the controls to use mouse aim.

Hope this helps!
