Because S/PDIF just support 2 PCM channels, surround require dolby or DTS encoding
Either you didn't understand that I use a coaxial cable or I didn't understand YOUR message. =)
How could you pass 6 channels trough it in other games?
Though the OP claims he can get 5.1 in other games w/o nothing of similar
If I understand properly, you mean that in other games I have surround working not using DD or DTS, right? Other games are working fine using DD surround, that's what I wanted to say in the original message.
Sorry. And I didn't recognized *you* were the OP
Besides, I'm quite sure this[xboxforums.create.msdn.com] is your problem
WOW man THANK YOU!!! The solution exists and WORKS!!! I thought I had to switch to WinXP to try the surround sound. Thank you again!
Now I want to tell everyone with the same problem about the solution. =)
P.S.: wow that wicked rumble of machinery coming from my subwoofer! Here the fresh Doom3 experience comes! =D
Though glad it worked :)
Sorry, didn't mention the whole 'XP-plan': besides the Realtek chip in the motherboard, I have a Sound Blaster 5.1 LIVE! that supports Doom 3's surround sound but I needed to install XP to install proper driver for the card to work properly.
Though, live! works just fine with Vista, 7 and even 8 for the record.
Only, it works flawlessly[www.evilbox.ro] only up to 2 GB of RAM
Otherwise just use these drivers[www.kxproject.com] (EAX don't work though)
