I installed this mod correctly and everything runs the way it should, or it seems to. I really cannot see much improvement. Has the "hi def" aspect of this mod been greatly overstated? I see so many low resolution textures, photoshop enlarged and sharpened textures and verticle texture seems on characters and objects. Maybe a door or tile here and there is now "hi def" but in the end, I may as well have the vanilla game.

It's nothing too impressive. If you want a good mod for visuals, load up Doom 3 with Sikk mod. It's too bad that this so called Hi-Def isn't as good as that. I'd be all over it and praise it. It's nothing special that's for sure.

SikkMod on the other hand destroys the original atmosphere of the game, that's why I prefer Hi-Def: it's A LOT more authentic.

Anyway the difference is quite huge between vanilla and Hi Def BFG, Hi Def just doesn't want to jump into your face shouting "look at the textures!" like SikkMod does. It's about overall image quality and atmosphere and less about individual texture quality.

Yep, not everything was updated, it pretty much is a work in progress depending on the state of the source port I guess.

achievements would not work for me. just played through entire game with latests patch of mod. not one achievement.

It uses a source port and that has its own exe file so you won't be able to get any achievements.

Are there anymore that work with BFG? Nice mod but it misses several textures that are in dire need of being replaced. They are super low-budget with these re-masters.. All these companies seem to be doing is upscaling the games resolution and only fixing what is imperative.

i found my solution to "couldn't load console" error........... when u run the mod's exe file, it points u by default to something like "c:programfiles/steam/common/doom3bfg" . this works only if u installed doom in that default directory. since i had my game installed in another drive (Drive D), i had to browse the exe's installation to D:Steam/common/doom3bfg. also i think you lose ur save files if u had any previous progress . hope it helps ...

Playing this @ 4k on a 43" screen and man, are the textures horrible. Looks like a game set to very low or something.

The crap part about a large high res screen is if a game isn't meant for higher res, it sure the hell shows 3' from the screen.

Gentlemen! If any of you own Doom 3, I would recommend the Absolute HD mod on ModDB. You can get it looking better than BFG ever will, and really tinker with the gameplay to make it quite interesting.

If I recall every "HD pack" for doom 3 utilizes Wulfen's HD textures instead so they will look identical.

Just came here to thank you. Wanted to play this game with more current textures but also unlock achievements. This trick about fooling steam into thinking it's the original exe was on spot.

Edit: The joy didn't last long. While the steam overlay works, the achivements don't work. Should have kept reading the thread... The mod's exe doesn't have the achievements coded in...
Already played original doom 3 running absolute mod. So the main interest on playing bfg was the chieevos. I don't think i can tolerate the ugly textures though...
