I would say somewhat, but the game has more of a story element than the first ones.

the pacing is really far from the originals this is more of a horror game and imo not as good. as it's own thing though it's not bad

Yeah I definitely didn't get much of a doom vibe. More like a Halo feel to it IMO. But it also seems im stuck at an early point in the game and can't figure out how to open some doors, which made it feel more like a maze

Look for the computer consoles the keys to unlock the doors are usally by those. AND you have to point and click (with your mouse) on the doors computer in order to unlock certain doors, hope this helps. Overall this is a vary maze type of game, but not as complex of a maze as Wolfenstein. 3D The graphics are way better in doom 3 but the game is mostly dark so your gonna need that flashlight toward the middle and the end of the campaign.

its not a maze at all like doom 1 and 2, if you know the levels, doom3 is easier, just read your PDA's ( or listen to audio ) .

Oh awesome. I'll make sure to tune into the PDA's. Thanks :)

The original Doom had lots of secret areas (typically 4-8 per level), usually only distinguished by discolored patches of wall. Up to three keycards (or colored skulls) per level, timed events, etc that you don't see so much of in Doom 3. The levels are simpler, and usually the only tricky bit navigating the levels is finding the right PDA with clearance to open a door. There are places where you can crawl around under the floor, but that's rarely if ever required -- usually only some armor shards down there.
